Cross-border interaction is an important way of life for residents in border areas. In the process of cross-border interaction, the border residents can obtain broader space for survival and development. In the process of interaction with different groups and national institutions, the self-consciousness has been constantly formed.Using the method of anthropological ethnography, this paper makes a field research on the kokang people living in nansan town,China. From the perspective of the border residents' subjectivity and initiative, this paper analyzes how kokang people form their self-consciousness in the process of cross-border interaction. And how they use self-awareness to maintain their cross-border interactions. The study found that cross-border interaction, mainly in the form of immigration, increased the frequency of interaction within and outside the kokang community. In the process of interaction with others, kokang people constantly introspect and recognize themselves through external reflection^,and eventually form their own self-consciousness.At the same time, under the guidance of self-consciousness,kokang people have built a cross-border interactive network, realized the goal of continuous cross-border migration in different periods, and gained more living space.By means of cross-border interaction, kokang people have constructed the complex and diversified self-consciousness of their ethnic group and responded to the influence of external forces such as the macro-structure of the state. This process fully-reflects the kokang people's subjectivity as a national frontier regional group and is the performance of their subjective initiative practice. The focus on border social facts such as cross-border interaction behavior and self-consciousness formation of kokang people is to listen to the voices of non-dominant groups within the national framework, think about the relationship between different social subjects in a more diversified way.
