The report of the Nineteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasizes"popularizing high school education and striving to make every child enjoy a fair and quality education".In the plan of popularizing and tackling the key problems in senior high school education(2017-2020),it is clearly stated that by 2020,the gross enrollment rate in senior high school will reach more than 90%in all provinces(districts and cities). At present, high school education has been basically popularized in cities and towns, focusing on improving the high school penetration rate in rural areas. The education investment for children is a family education decision-making behavior made by farmers after comprehensive factors.Based on the tracing data of CHNS,this paper uses mlogit model to examine the impact of income inequality in villages on junior middle school students' diversion and the difference of its impact on different characteristics of junior middle school students' diversion in rural areas. The study found:(1)Junior middle students who choose not to go to school after graduating from junior middle school is the largest in rural areas, accounting for 38.83%;the second choice is to enter the ordinary high school, accounting for 28.96%.The proportion of students who choose to drop out of middle school is 22.98%,and 9.22%choose to enter secondary vocational school. In terms of regions, rural junior middle school students in the western region choose to drop out at the junior middle school stage and no longer go to school after graduation;rural junior middle school students in the eastern region choose to enter the general high school the largest proportion;rural junior middle school students in the central region choose to enter the secondary vocational school the largest proportion.(2)The income inequality in villages has obvious diversion effect on rural junior middle school students. The enlargement of income inequality in villages not only increases the dropout probability of some rural junior middle school students, but also promotes the probability of some rural junior middle school students going to ordinary high schools. The enlargement of income inequality in villages significantly increases the probability of rural junior middle school students dropping out and entering ordinary high schools,However, there is no significant impact on the progression to secondary vocational schools.Family cultural capital is directly proportional to the probability of rural junior middle school students going to senior high school after graduation, while family social capital significantly increases the probability of rural junior middle school students going to secondary vocational school after graduation.(3)The diversion effect of village income inequality on rural junior middle school students is mainly reflected in the poor family cultural capital, the children of low-income families and the female groups. When the income inequality in the village widens, some low-income farmers will choose to let their children drop out of school. However, when the income inequality in the village is serious, some low-income families will choose to let their children complete junior middle school and go to senior high school.Of course, this will significantly reduce the probability of entering secondary vocational schools. At the same time,no matter how much the family culture capital is,there will be more farmers to let their children go to ordinary high schools. The chances of school boys and girls dropping out of school in rural junior colleges will increase, but the impact on girls is much greater than the impact on boys.Based on the control of the important influencing factors found in the existing research, this paper introduces the rural income inequality into the decision model of rural junior high school students, and examines the possible differences between rural junior high school students with different characteristics. The differences exist in order to enrich the relevant literature, and provide certain decision-making reference for realizing the strategic goal of popularizing high school education and improving the quality of human capital in China.
