Peer selection is an important way for the socialization of children, which is of important significance to the formation and development of children's personality and character. To discuss the peer selection cognition and behaviors of 4-6 years old children in regard to group preference and social conflicts, the paper adopts simple and random sampling methodology to select 341 4-6 years children as research target.Through creating the conflict scenario between group preference and social rules,4-6 years old children's development characters and reasoning features are investigated for their peer selection in conflict situation. In Research 1,through setting up the conflict scenario between novel group preference and social rules, the peer selection cognitive mechanism and influencing mechanism of 4-6 years old children are explored according to their peer selection and explanatory answers. In Research 2,through setting up conflict scenario between real group preference and social rules, the comparative study is carried out with Research 1 for jointly research on the cognitive mechanism and influencing mechanism of 4-6 years old children's peer selection. The research conclusions are summarized as below:(1)In the conflict scenario between group preference and social rules, when facing the insiders of the group breaching the rules and theoutsiders of the group obeying the rules, they prefer to choose outsiders of the group.(2)In the conflict scenario between group preference and social rules, significant gender difference and age difference exist in the peer selection of 4-6 years old children. The probability of girls to choose group outsiders is higher than that of boys, and the probability of 4 years old children to choose group outsiders is lower than that of 5-and 6-years old children.(3)In the real conflict scenario between group preference and social rules, peer selection of 4-6 years old children is influenced by the area and nature of social rules. In the conflict scenario between novel group preference and social rules, peer selection of 4-6 years old children is mainly influenced by the nature of social rules.(4)In the conflict scenario between group preference and social rules, the explanatory answers for children's peer selection have significant gender difference, the percentage rate for girls to use group function as explanatory answers is much higher than that of boys.(5)In the conflict scenario between real group preference and social rules, the explanatory answers for children's peer selection have significant age difference, the percentage rate for 5-and-6 years old children to use group function as explanatory answers is much higher than that of 4 years old children.(6)Compared with real group preference, when there is a conflict between novel group preference and social rules,it is easier for 4-6 years old children to overcome novel group preference and select peers according to the social rules.Referring to the above research results, the study proposes following education suggestions:(1)Instructive guidance should be provided to 4-6years old children's peer selection;(2)Multiple methods should be taken to reduce the negative influence of group preference on 4-6 years old children;(3)The moderating effect of social rules should be fully used for the peer selection of 4-6 years old children.
