Research On Military Scientific Development Of American Research Universities During Cold War

American universities are naturally connected to war,research in American research universities proposer from war and developed after war.The two world wars of the twentieth century prompted American research universities to obtain huge support from the federal government in the field of defense and military research,creating world-renowned scientific research achievements.Based on the outstanding contributions of research universities in wartime,under the influence of the Korean War,the escalation of the US-Soviet arms race,the Vietnam War in Cold war,federal government launched a series of science and technology bills to continue to funding the military research of research universities,which shaped the "golden age" of military research in American research universities.Among the huge military funding opportunities of the Cold War federation,Stanford University has reviewed the situation and established close military research cooperation with the federal government and industry,Which become a model university that has been rapidly rising in the Cold War.From the perspective of historical development,this study takes the military research of American research universities under the military fear of the early Cold War(1945-1970)as the research subject,expounds the evolution of research university military research under federal research funding,and analyzes the background,development process and results of the formation of the military research boom of American research universities in Cold War.At the same time,the rise of Stanford University during the Cold War was taken as a case study to show the evolution of Stanford University's participation in federal military research,and tounderstand the interaction between the federal government and research universities.In the end,it makes conclusive reflections on the research development of American research universities and the relationship between the federal government to provide reference and inspiration for the construction and development of China's world class universities.This research uses literature research,historical analysis,case study and other research methods.According to the historical development,it is divided into the following six chapters:The first chapter: Introduction.Including the research questions,research significance,core concept definition,literature review and research methods.The second chapter: Combine the military research process of American research universities before the Cold War,expounding the formation and development of American research universities,and the research universities participating in military research under the mobilization of the two world war federal governments.The third chapter: Combine the background of the formation of the Cold War and its characteristics,explain the boom of military research in American research universities promoted by the Cold War federal science and technology policy,analyze the background and influence of the development of science and technology policies in the Cold War,and sort out the history of American research universities participating in military research under the mobilization of defense agencies.At the same time,show the interaction between Stanford University and federal government in the process of seeking federal military research cooperation.The fourth chapter:Describe the background,history and results of the military research crisis of research universities in the late 1960 s,and presents the ups and downs history of military research cooperation between the federal government and research universities.The fifth chapter: Conclusions and Implications.Summarize the development law of military research in American research universities during the Cold War,reflect on the relationship between the federal government and research universities,and try to learn from the development of the relationship between government and universities in the construction of world class universities in China.
