Research On Liu Wenhui's Educational Practice In Xikang Province

Liu Wenhui(1895-1976),styled Zigan,was former Minister of State Forestry from Dayi County,Sichuan province.In the 1920 s and 1930 s,Liu Wenhui was one of the most influential figures in Sichuan warlord.In 1939,he served as the chairman of Xikang Province.He attached great importance to the education and put forward his own unique views on the education,which formed distinctive educational thoughts,constructed the education system,shaped the educational model in minority areas,and promoted early modernization of Xikang education.He can be regarded as a pioneer of national education.At an early stage,the low-education locals,cultural backwardness and the shortage of talents gave deeply impression on Liu Wenhui.As the chairman in Xikang Province,Liu Wenhui drew lessons from his predecessors and combined with his own experience on developing Xikang's education in an all-round way.He put forward “San Hua Policy”(Moralization,Nationalization and Improvement)and “San Jin Policy”(Aggressiveness,Progress and Advance)through the whole educational processand successfully applied it to practice.On the basis of his deep understanding of Xikang education,Liu Wenhui put forward many thoughts: “we should make the best use of Xikang's human resources for our nation,train people's knowledge,organization,productivity and survivability,and integrate national emotions and develop frontier education”.He paid attention to teachers and students in the development of education,guided to design courses and textbooks with national characteristics,and carefully drew up the blueprint for the development of Xikang education.These measures made education systematic and trained a large number of talents,which promoted the political and economic development of Xikang province and made contributions to consolidating the Southwest China.This essay mainly conducts historical research,literature research and comparative research.Through in-depth analysis of Liu Wenhui's life experience,the essay first explores the basis of his educational thought and a series of educational activities,and then makes a comprehensive conclusion and gives objective comments on his educational thought.At last the essay provides the Enlightenment of the educational thought to today's minority areas.
