Study On The Competency Status Quo Of Health Management Professionals In Health Check-up Industry

ObjectiveBased on the support from national policy and the practical problems concerning national health,this research focuses on the needs of the health management industry in China by analyzing the demographic characteristics of the health management practitioners in the health examination industry,with the competency model being the theoretical guidance.Exploring the competency requirements of health management professionals and the relevant factors affecting the competency of the population in the health check-up industry,this paper aims at providing suggestions for regulating the “entry and exit” of health management professionals in China and improving the construction of health management disciplines.MethodsA questionnaire was designed by means of literature research,expert consultation and panel discussion with 928 health management practitioners and 112 health management majors selected from random sampling.Through in-depth interview,the senior leaders,personnel supervisors and other managers of health check-up institutions were invited to interviews and consultations concerning to the theories,skills,emotions and other abilities required by health management practitioners.The descriptive analysis was used to analyze the demographic characteristics of health management practitioners,the competency level of health management practitioners,and the competency level of health management students.T-test,variance analysis,multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the factors affecting the competency level of health management practitioners in physical examination industry.Results1.Demographic characteristics of Health Management Practitioners surveyed:479 males(51.62%),449 females(48.38%).792 persons under 40 years of age,account for 85.34% of the total.At the cultural level,health management practitioners in the health examination industry were mainly college diploma,accounting for42.35%.In terms of professional background,nearly half(47.30%)had no relevant professional background.293(31.57%)had management background,196(21.12%)had medical background.In terms of the number of years engaged in physical examination,those who had 1 to 3 years of work experience account for the highest was 626(67.46%)of all respondents,only 185(19.94%)had received a certificate of health manager.There were 718 ordinary employees(77.37%),210 managers(22.63%),and the average monthly income(after tax)level was 3,000~6,000 yuan,555 people(59.81%).2.The score of competency of health management practitioners and students majoring in health management: There was a significant difference in the overall competency and the scores of various dimensions among different groups(P<0.01).The professional attitude(33.28 ± 5.51)and interpersonal communication ability(31.50±4.93)of health management professionals were higher than those of health management students(28.67 ± 5.84)and(28.77 ± 5.07).In the health examination industry,the competence of health management practitioners was(145.51±25.39),the ability of knowledge synthesis was(15.68±6.65),and the ability of professional practice was(48.98±11.07),The professional development ability(16.06±5.66)was lower than those of health management students,the total competency(158.22 ±31.08),knowledge synthesis ability(23.53±5.41),professional practice ability(53.78±13.06),professional development ability(23.48±5.84).3.The influencing factors of competency of health management practitioners were as follows: Taking P<0.05 as the test standard,it was found that the variables influencing the total score of competency were the current position grade and cultural level.The years of work experience were the variables that affected the score of professional attitude,and the variables that influenced the score of interpersonal communication ability were the years of work experience,which had been certified by health managers.The variables that affected the score of comprehensive ability of knowledge were the current position level,cultural level and professional background,the variables that affected the score of professional practical ability were the number of years engaged in the profession,the current post grade.The variables that affectedthe score of professional development ability were the current post grade,average monthly income(after tax)level,cultural level,years of work experience,professional background.4.The results of the interview: The health management services undertaken by the health examination institutions mainly focus on the health examination,and the health management practitioners lack the comprehensive knowledge ability and the professional practice ability.The main requirements of health check-up institutions are college degree or above,strong learning ability,professional background related to health management,preferably more than two years of professional experience in computer operation skills and so on.ConclusionAt present,the health management personnel in the health examination profession present the same sex,the younger trend,the lower level of education,have no relevant professional background,lack of professional experience,lack of professional skills and so on.Health management practitioners have a good level of professional attitude,lack of comprehensive knowledge ability,professional development ability.Professional experience can improve interpersonal skills,professional practice ability.Health check-up industry operation model to be innovative,professionals are scarce.This study suggests to improve the health related policies,improve the health examination industry system,promote the concept of health management,improve the health awareness of health management practitioners.In order to improve the service level of health management,we should establish and perfect the admission standard of talents in health examination industry,accept the high-level talents in many fields,encourage the participation of multi-subjects and other aspects to improve the level of health management services,and seek ways for the transfer of health management professionals.
