| Mathematics activities are essential for students to gain mathematical knowledge, develop mathematical abilities, and attain the core mathematical competencies. Then how to assess students’ performance in mathematics activities effectively and scientifically? How to determine assessment goals, design performance tasks, develop rubrics, and conduct performance assessment and provide feedback based on the national curriculum standard of mathematics? To deepen the curriculum reform in basic education nowadays,we need to conduct research on these questions.Starting with the assessment reform of mathematics activities, this study discusses the appropriateness of applying performance assessment to mathematics activities from the perspectives of theory and practice.Firstly, this thesis reviews and analyzes existing literature in and beyond China on the core concepts of “mathematics activities” and “performance assessment”.This thesis further discusses the assessment dilemma of mathematics activities and compatibility between mathematics activities and performance assessment.Secondly,to apply the performance assessment to mathematics activities, this study constructs four steps: determining learning objectives, designing performance tasks, developing rubrics, and conducting assessment and providing feedback. Finally, this thesis explores how to apply performance assessment to mathematics activities in primary school via case study and specific teaching content.Based on theoretical and practical research on applying performance assessment to mathematics activities, the thesis reaches the following conclusions: general procedures and elements of performance assessment in mathematics activities;performance assessment can examine students’ advanced thinking skill in mathematics;performance assessment may pay attention to students’ learning process;and detailed and specific rubrics provide direction for students and teachers. |
