With the processes of the education reform, more and more educators and teachers realized that there were many disadvantages in the forms of student assessment. So they try their best to seek for some new kinds of assessment which could overcome the difficulties they met in their assessment, thus performance assessment come to people's view. However, in Shanghai, teachers teaching Mathematics in primary school are not familiar with such kind of useful assessment. In order to let more mathematics teachers know this kind of assessment, applying it into the practice, I wrote this essay. The essay consists seven sections. In the surface, I made a brief introduction of my written intention and the work the others had done. Then, I reviewed the development of performance assessment in Chapter One and described the background that performance assessment caught people's eye in Chapter Two. After collecting various definitions of the performance assessment, I summarized the key characters of performance assessment and proved its feasibility in the student assessment of pupils'mathematics learning, which are included in Chapter Three. Chapter Four is the most important, by reading which teachers could know the key points of carrying this assessment and having a general impression of tasks and criteria using in the assessment. In the Chapter of"Conclusion and Further Research", I mentioned the experience I got from the study and several topics which need further research. At last, I gave a complete case of using performance assessment in assessing pupils'mathematics learning.
