Since the late nineteenth century,British women's higher education has been implemented for more than a century.Looking back on its development history,it is full of difficulties and difficulties.This paper chooses British women's higher education as the research object,mainly because women's higher education is currently a key research topic in the world.Meanwhile,the development experience of British women's higher education can be used for reference to our country.This paper collects and collates the basic concepts of women's education,women's higher education and women's colleges by means of literature research;analyses the basic historical facts of the development of British society and women's higher education from 1848 to 1921 by means of historical research;adopts comparative research method,and adopts the development of British women's higher education from 1848 to 1921,as well as the difference between the development of British women's higher education and that of men's education in the same period and Compare with the same stage and summarize its characteristics.Firstly,the paper analyses three factors that lead to British women's higher education: the development of economy in the steam age,the promotion of state intervention in education and the guidance of French Enlightenment.Secondly,the establishment and development of women's higher education are divided into two stages,namely,the initial establishment of four women's colleges,Queen's College,Bedford College,North London College and Chettenheim College for Women,and the establishment of women's colleges affiliated to traditional universities.The newly established Women's College is conservative and innovative in terms of curriculum setting,college management mode and daily life arrangement.It has also obtained the qualification of local university examination.After the women's college joins the traditional university,it has obtained the degree qualification in the traditional university.Then,through the research and analysis of historical facts,six characteristics of British women's higher education are summarized: the idea of running a school changes from creating independent space to pursuing gender equality,the value orientation changes from serving marriage and family to highlighting individual independent development,the content of education changes from paying attention to vocational practical development to paying attention to rational cultivation,middle-class women are always the backbone force,and the degree struggle goes on step by step,and the outstanding contribution of women teachers.Finally,this paper analyses the impact of the development of women's higher education in Britain on women's education and employment,and summarizes the enlightenment to our country: paying attention to the development of female teachers in colleges and universities,paying attention to guiding women to choose their major rationally,paying attention to women's vocational psychological health education in universities and enriching the curriculum system of women's higher education.
