According to the theory of gaming culture, language learning through games includes “In-game” and “Beyond-game” activities.Language learners engage in language learning not only in game play, but also in social interaction and discussions after games more frequently which stand for beyond-game culture.Gaming culture consists of two sub-systems:game play and beyond-game culture.Learners learn foreign languages through the integrated gaming culture. And these two parts of gaming culture influence each other and improve the language learning jointly.Based on the situation of overseas Chinese teaching and learning nowadays and the study on Chinese teaching and learning through games, this paper retrospects the main study on the second language teaching and learning through games, and points out the deficiencies of traditional game theories and the value of new gaming culture theory. Then according to the theory of gaming culture, this paper investigates the primary school students in Great Southern Grammar School Australia, and comprehensively analyzes the whole process of students' Chinese learning through games from “Chinese learning through game play in class”,“Chinese learning through beyond-game culture” and “Chinese gaming culture”.At last, this paper summarizes the Chinese gaming culture and proposes some suggestions for overseas Chinese teaching and learning, aiming to comprehend clearly the whole process of students' Chinese learning through games with the gaming culture theory and enrich the study of Chinese teaching and learning as a second language.
