Zhang Poling put education as a lifelong belief in saving the nation.He formed Nankai system and trained a large number of talent people,which is known as "a creative Chinese person in modern education." James Yen committed mass education for 70 years,which is known as "the father of the Mass Education Movement".His mass education movement is famous for both China and the world.His contribution in education has a great impact in Asia,Latin America and Africa.In the early 20 th century,China's social background is the decadent rule under the late qing government and the public widespread phenomenon of “foolish,weak,scattered,selfish”.Based on such social background,Zhang Po-ling and James Yen produced the idea of saving country through education.Zhang Po-ling and James Yen was influenced both by Chinese traditional culture and the thoughts of western.Zhang Po-ling concluded the educational concepts from the personality forming point of view,which are “moral education is the soul of all things”,“the influence of personality is the ultimate”,“all-round development of morality,intelligence and physique”.Zhang Po-ling carried out the education practice of studying abroad and establishing schools on the basis of the educational theory.However,James Yen concluded the educational concepts from the The strength of individual life and reality groups point of view,which are four big educational ideas and three ways of education.Then,James Yen carried out the education practice of the mass education movement and ding county experiment on the basis of the educational theory.Their concepts of education has made great achievements.Comparing the educational concept,we can found that their educational concepts has many similarities: first,the purpose is the same,they wanted to change the social status through education;Second,similar concerns,they paid attention to the all-round development of people;Third,they paid attention to ethics education and citizen education.The difference of their educational concepts is the educational groups.Although Zhang Po-ling and James Yen's educational concepts have its defects,their educational concepts have certain reference significance for our contemporary education.
