From the end of the 18 th century to the middle of the 19 th century,Cairo was in the reign of the foreign leader Muhammad Ali.The ruler had great ambitions for political power and military expansion.He wanted to show his personal ruling authority in a better capital city.In the meantime,urban space had become a bearing for its political intentions.In the specific process of the transformation of urban space in Cairo,the ruler played a pivotal role in the construction of the city as well.Based on the chronicles of Egyptian historians in that era and the letters and travels of Europeans who had been in Cairo,and combined with the research results of scholars at home and abroad,the thesis analyzes and discusses the causes and changes of the urban space in Cairo during the Muhammad Ali period.The transformation of urban space,the significance of the transformation of urban space,and the impact on the construction of Cairo cities in later generations.The thesis is divided into three parts: the first chapter expounds the conditions and reasons for the transformation of urban space in Cairo during the Muhammad Ali period.The second chapter discusses the process of urban spatial transformation in Cairo,involving urban functional zoning,urban road traffic construction and urban environmental beautification.The third chapter analyzes the significance of the transformation of urban space in Cairo during the period of Muhammad Ali,and explains the relationship between the urban space of Cairo and the political ambition of Muhammad Ali,highlighting the political significance of its formation;and explaining the subsequent rule.Ismail's inheritance of Muhammed Ali's urban transformation thoughts and his arduous urban westernization activities demonstrate the continuity and influence of this urban spatial evolution.
