A Study On Benjamin's Urban Space Theory

Benjamin is the pioneer of urban space theory,in his life,he hang out in many cities.In the 1950 s and 1960 s,Benjamin gained a worldwide reputation.Since 1980 s,with Mr.Zhang Xudong's translation and introduction of Benjamin,there has been a boom of Benjamin in China.Nowadays,with the continuous development of urbanization in China,urban space theory is becoming more and more popular.As the first few people who pay attention to the city.Benjamin used poetic language to describe the transformation of the way of space feeling brought by the changes of modern cities.His urban theory has not been established in a certain theoretical framework,has not been established a complete urban space theory,but he laid a solid foundation for the urban space theory and opened up the perspective of modern people to observe the city.This thesis is divided into four parts.The introduction mainly introduces the purpose and significance of this thesis,research status at home and abroad,etc.Preparing for the next few chapters.Chapter one mainly discusses the connotation of urban space theory.It divides urban space theory into three categories: Marxist space,sociological space and modern space,and analyzes the core meaning and connotation of these three types of theory.Chapter two is the main body of this thesis.It mainly studies three dimensions of Benjamin's urban space theory,namely,time dimension,material dimension and experience dimension.The time dimension mainly discusses the efforts of Benjamin's time and space and the instant experience of modern people.The material dimension mainly discusses the impact of commodities on people and the spatial characteristics of Paris arcade as the concentration of commodities.The experiential dimension mainly analyzes the time and space confusion and strangeness that the stroller feels in the arcade.Chapter three considers the meaning and Enlightenment of Benjamin's urban space theory.Benjamin's theoretical intention is mainly focused on the criticism of urban space capitalization and the spatial perception of fragmentation,the enlightenment is mainly focused on the urban interpretation of the city as a text and the significance of Benjamin's attention to daily life for urban residents.In this thesis,through the close reading of the text,combined with the urban space theory since modern times,the author explains Benjamin's urban space theory,hoping to help the busy people in the city,and also hope to make a contribution to the interpretation of modern urban space.
