In view of the dilemma of higher education entrance-oriented education,examination-oriented education and homogenization of schools in China's general senior high school education,the Outline of China's National Plan for Medium and Long-term Education Reform and Development(2010-2020)and the Program for Promoting Senior High School Education(2017-2020)have put forward the requirement of "promoting diversification and characteristic development of general senior high school".In 2014 and 2016,Shanghai promulgated the Implementation Plan for Promoting the Construction of Characteristic Senior High Schools in Shanghai(Trial Implementation)and the Three-year Plan of Action for Promoting the Construction of Characteristic Senior High Schools in Shanghai(2016-2018),to promote the transformation of senior high school education: from "stratified" to "classified".However,there are few ways to understand the transformation process of these characteristic schools,and the existing researches pay less attention to the internal dynamic factors.Based on this background,this study chose School C in Putuo District of Shanghai as a case,and explored the forming process of characteristic senior high school from the perspective of principal leadership.This study is a case study,which also combines interview,text analysis and observation as research methods.This dissertation is divided into six parts: the first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduced the background,purpose and research questions of this study,and then made a literature review on the two topics: characteristic senior high school and principals leadership;the second chapter is the research design,which introduced the object,and put forward the concept definition,analysis framework and research methods used in this dissertation;the third,fourth and fifth parts are the main body of the dissertation-case analysis;the last part is the conclusion and dicussion,summarizing and reflecting on the findings and limitations of this study.This study describes the eighteen years of development of the case school: from a weak "ordinary secondary school" to "key secondary school of the district",then to "characteristic senior high school of the city".Through the difficulties and opportunities,vision and path,as well as effectiveness and reflection,it describes how the principal led the school step-by-step towards characteristics and improved its characteristic quality.The conclusion and enlightenment of this study are as follows: characteristic senior high school is inherently generated in its long characteristic development process;principal leadership has its own emphasis at different stages of school characteristic development;in addition to principal leadership,school characteristic development needs the joint efforts of many parties,such as the efforts of school staff,the support of social resources and the policy guarantee of administrative departments.
