| In recent years,with the rapid development of science and technology,the demand for technical and engineering talents in the world keeps expanding,and the status of technology and engineering education in basic education keeps rising.In 2017,China’s primary school science curriculum standards for compulsory education incorporated the content of the "technology and engineering" section into the primary school science curriculum.Engineering technology education has developed relatively late in China.Most of the education and teaching research on engineering focuses on higher education and vocational and technical education,while there are few studies on the group of primary school students.At present,there are few studies on the evaluation of engineering design ability of primary school students in China.Based on the design and compilation of the work sheet for the evaluation of the engineering design ability of primary school students,this study evaluates the engineering design ability of primary school students in order to explore the index system and practical methods suitable for the evaluation of the engineering design ability of primary school students in China.This research set out from compulsory education primary school science curriculum standard,According to the requirements of curriculum standards for engineering design ability of students in grades 1-2,3-4 and 5-6,Combined with the Next Generation of Science Education Standards,the Technology and Engineering Literacy Assessment,the Australian Design and Technology Technology theme,and the Australian Design and Technology Assessment of the division of engineering design capability dimension,and based on the expert consultation,an evaluation index system for engineering design capability is formed.In this study,the first-level index of "engineering design ability" is determined as the ability to propose engineering problems,design solutions,usematerials and tools,and evaluate/improve the design based on evidences.Furthermore,the first-level indicators of primary school engineering design ability are refined into 11 secondary indicators,and on the basis of the indicator system,the performance of students with high,medium and low levels is determined.Through the comparison and analysis of the existing tests,we finally choose the form of structural work order combined with field observation to evaluate,and on this basis,the existing tests are adapted,tested,Form a set of engineering design ability evaluation worksheet with good reliability and validity for grade 5 and 6 students.In this study,the engineering design ability of the fifth and sixth grade students in three primary schools at two levels in Chongqing was measured by using the worksheet and random sampling method.The measurement results show that :(1)the overall level of engineering design ability of the subjects is high,especially in the ability to use materials and tools;(2)the sixth-grade students have significantly improved their abilities in the four engineering design sub-levels compared with the fifth-grade students.(3)there is no significant difference in engineering design ability between students of key schools and students of ordinary schools;(4)there is no significant difference in engineering design ability between students of different genders. |
