Objective: To measure the mental resilience of secondary vocational students by questionnaire survey. In order to improve the psychological resilience of the subjects with low level of psychological resilience,a group counseling program was used. Methods: Firstly,450 students in a secondary vocational school in Hunan province were investigated by questionnaire survey on adolescent mental resilience scale compiled by Hu Yueqin and Gan Yiqun in 2008 to understand their level of mental resilience.36 students with low level of mental resilience were selected as subjects and divided into experimental group, control group 1 and control group 2.Before the experiment, the three groups of subjects were tested for homogeneity. Then according to the theory of resilience and the theory of group psychological counseling, the psychological resilience group counseling program was designed. The experimental group accepted the psychological resilience group counseling intervention once a week. The control group 1 accepted group counseling once a week which had nothing to do with mental resilience, while the control group 2 was not conducted any experimental treatment. After 8 group counseling interventions, the level of psychological resilience of the three groups of subjects was postmeasured to test the effectiveness of group counseling activities, and the follow-up posttest was conducted to test the persistence of group counseling one month later. Results :(1)It was found that the total score of mental resilience of secondary vocational students was in the middle level compared with the national norm. There is a significant difference in psychological resilience between the sexes.Boys' goal concentration and emotional control are significantly higher than girls'.The family support of secondary vocational students from non-single parent families is significantly higher than that of single parent families. The emotional control of secondary vocational students left behind for less than one year is significantly higher than that of secondary vocational students left behind for five to ten years. There was no significant difference in whether the parents were single, single and double parents or registered permanent residence.(2)There is no significant difference in mental resilience in the pre-test of the experimental group, control group 1 and control group 2.The comparison of the post-test after the intervention shows that the mental resilience of secondary vocational students in the experimental group is significantly improved in the overall level and all dimensions, while there is no significant difference in the other two control groups.Conclusion:(1)the mental resilience of the group counseling group significantly improved.(2)targeted group counseling designed in this study can improve the psychological resilience of secondary vocational students.
