With the development of China’s modernization construction, vocational education, which holds the same important position as general education, has entered a new stage of improving quality and improving development. As an important component of quality education, the importance of psychological health for vocational school students is increasingly evident, which has attracted numerous attention from society and academia. The mental health status of vocational school students is worrying, especially the detection rate of depression is increasing year by year.Based on this, this study used the Depression Scale(PHQ-9)to investigate the current state of depression among 756 students in a vocational school in Qujing City, and explored the influencing factors of depression among vocational school students through interview. At the same time, based on the preliminary survey results, combined with the theories of CBT and group counseling, following the intervention path from negative automatic thinking to intermediate beliefs to core beliefs, combined with the behavioral treatment methods of CBT,a CBT group counseling program was designed to conduct group counseling experimental research on mild and moderate depression in vocational school students. The effectiveness of group counseling was tested through quantitative and qualitative studies, respectively.Research findings:Firstly, depression is more common among vocational school students, with mild to moderate depression being the main type, and there are significant differences in gender and major.Female students have higher levels of depression than male students, while nursing majors have significantly higher levels of depression than aviation high-speed rail and automotive repair majors. There is no difference in depression among vocational school students in terms of grade and ethnic factors.Secondly, the depression of vocational school students is mainly caused by the three negative core beliefs of "I am incompetent","I am worthless",and "I am not cute",among which the negative core beliefs of "I am incompetent" have the greatest impact. In the gender dimension, female students’ depressive emotions are more caused by negative beliefs of ’I am worthless’.In the professional dimension, nursing depression is more caused by the negative belief that ’I am incompetent’.Thirdly, the CBT group counseling activity designed and conducted in this study can effectively alleviate mild and moderate depression among vocational school students, and its positive results can be transferred to life and learning, and continue to be effective for three months.
