As a special group of adolescents,secondary vocational school students lack a certain degree of attention in society.Moreover,secondary vocational students are in a critical period of physical and mental development,and their own developmental characteristics are complex and diverse.The current research on the use of emotion regulation strategies for secondary school students is relatively small and focuses more on the study of a specific negative emotion of secondary school students.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to improve the ability of secondary school students to use positive emotion regulation strategies to enhance their psychological health.This study focuses on the relationship between emotion regulation strategies and secondary school students’ psychological health,including the current situation of secondary school students’ psychological health level and the characteristics of secondary school students’ use of emotion regulation strategies.Using the Gross emotion regulation process model as the theoretical basis,the study aims to design a group counselling programme with the theme of emotion regulation strategies,with the aim of improving their use of emotion regulation strategies and promoting the healthy development of secondary school students’ psychological level.This paper is divided into Study 1 and Study 2.In Study 1,the Emotion Regulation Strategies Questionnaire(ERQ)and the Self-Rating Scale of Psychological Symptoms(SCL-90)were used to conduct a questionnaire survey on secondary school students in a secondary school.The relationship between emotion regulation strategies and mental health.Based on the results of the questionnaire survey in Study 1,Study 2 was conducted.28 secondary school students with high frequency of using emotion regulation strategies and low level of mental health were selected as the subjects of the study and divided into a control group and an experimental group,and the experimental group was given six sessions of psychological support intervention,while the control group was not given any intervention.The data were analysed and the results of the intervention were examined.This study focuses on the relationship between emotion regulation strategies and secondary school students’ mental health,including the current situation of secondary school students’ mental health level and the characteristics of secondary school students’ use of emotion regulation strategies,using the Gross emotion regulation process model as a theoretical basis to design a group counselling programme with the theme of emotion regulation strategies,aiming to improve their level of use of emotion regulation strategies and promote the healthy mental level of secondary school students.The aim was to improve their use of emotion regulation strategies and promote the healthy development of their psychological level.Results:(1)There was no significant difference in the use of emotion regulation strategies between first-year and second-year students,and no significant difference in the use of emotion regulation strategies between boys and girls;there was a significant difference between first-year and second-year students on somatization,obsessive-compulsive symptoms,interpersonal sensitivity,anxiety,paranoia,and psychoticism,with first-year students scoring higher than second-year students,and boys and girls scoring higher on somatization,obsessive-compulsive symptoms,depression,phobia,and other,with girls scoring higher than boys;(2)The use of emotion regulation strategies was related to the level of psychological well-being,and the cognitive reappraisal strategy of emotion regulation strategies had a positive predictive effect on the level of psychological well-being;the expression inhibition strategy of emotion regulation strategies had a negative predictive effect on the level of psychological well-being;(3)The group counselling intervention on emotion regulation strategies was able to reduce the frequency of use of expression inhibition strategies among first-year students,which had a significant effect on the improvement of mental health level and could effectively improve the mental health level of students.Conclusion: Emotion regulation strategies are an important factor influencing the mental health level of secondary school students,and group counseling interventions on emotion regulation strategies for first-year students can effectively reduce the frequency of students’ use of expression inhibition strategies and improve their mental health level.
