Elementary and secondary school educations are key periods to establish teenagers' values by moral and character education,and the effects of which are related to national prosperity and the country's future.After years of development,the moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools of Malaysia has formed a unique mode of education and accumulated a lot of useful experience,which lays a solid foundation for reviving traditional culture,improving the school ethos and reconciling the ethnic conflicts.By researching the development of elementary and secondary school education,this thesis has formed a comprehensive and deep understanding.It summarizes the main features of the education,thus enlightening the improvement of elementary and secondary schools education in our country.The paper has six chapters which are divided into six parts.The first part is the introduction,the second part is the first chapter,and the third part is the second chapter,the forth part is third chapter,the fifth part is forth chapter,the sixth part is the fifth chapter.The first part is to concentrate the main point,it discusses the research questions raised and meaning topics.After reviewing the previous research achievements,it ascertains the core concepts,the research ideas and methods of the study.The second part discusses the history of the moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools of Malaysia.Affected by religious,colonial aggression,ethnic differences,modernization and other factors,the history of moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools of Malaysia can be divided into four periods coming as:(1)the period of religious education(-early 1820s);(2)the period of British colonization(from 1820s to early 1940s);(3)the period of bud and adjustment(from early 1950s to late 1980s);(4)the period of exploration and advance(since mid-1990s).Each period transition gives the new meanings to moral and character education,which also shows continuous enrichment and improvement of moral and character education.The third part mainly analysis the reality of the moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools of Malaysia.Under the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural background,Malaysia has integrated the implementation of the Islamic education,moral education and citizenship education,and has formed the current situation of the moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools dominated by multiple targets,multidimensional content,multiple teaching ways,diverse teaching methods and multi-stage evaluation methods.So it not only caters to racial differences,but also meets the era's demands for moral and character education.The forth part mainly analysis the policie of the moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools of Malaysia.Policies are closely related to the moral and character education,they play a guiding and constraining role in its development.Under the guidance of 'Rukun Negara','Cabinet Committee Report on the Implementation of the Education Policy','National Education Philosophy','Vision 2020','Preliminary Report on Education Blueprint for 2013-2025 ',the moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools of Malaysia becomes more institutionalized,rationalized and standardized.The fifth part mainly analysis the feature,problem and trend in the moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools of Malaysia.With continuous reforms,the development of the moral and character education at elementary and secondary schools has now grown in full.The promotion of national culture and protection of the good national character,multifaceted development and the formation of three-dimensional penetration mode,and the pursuit of consensus of moral and character and the realization of the values with religious origin are the three significant features.However,the path of the development of moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools of Malaysia is not so smooth and easy.Several problems are getting in the way,such as the query for the rationality,the rigidity of evaluation methods and the shortage of teachers,the moral and character education divergence caused by the multi-ethnic background.However,Malaysia has been courageously striving for the exploration of the moral and character education at elementary and secondary schools,which makes the development show a trend with a whole connotation from close to open,a balance system from one-sided to overall,and the teaching methods from stiff to flexible.The six part mainly analysis the enlightenment of the moral and character education in the elementary and secondary schools of Malaysia to our country.We should combine our current situation with Malaysia's experiences for reference,so as to establish and perfect our own development of moral and character education at elementary and secondary schools.We should focus on the following four main points:Firstly,to strengthen legislation and regulations,and attach great importance to the moral and character education at elementary and secondary schools.Secondly,to rationally promote national cultural traditions based on their own features.Thirdly,to enrich teaching methods and practice moral and character education in diversity.Fourthly,to build moral and character consensus and maintain social harmony.
