In the career development process, college students face a variety of problems and confusion. Most of them lack career-related knowledge, and they do not understand how to set up career goals, make career choices, improve career maturity. However, career maturity is of great significance to the development of individual career.Because career maturity is associated with career success,it is important for college students to know how to improve their career maturity and ultimately develop their career.Based on a comprehensive literature review on career maturity and drawing on social cognitive career theory, this study develops a conceptual model of college students' career maturity by exploring the relationship between proactive personality and career maturity and examining the mediating role of perceived career barriers and the moderating role of family intrusiveness.Data were collected from college students in Wuhan,Nanjing,Shanghai and Fuzhou.A total of 452 questionnaires were returned via e-mails and online links.Among the 452 questionnaires,438 ones were usable(96.9%).Data analyses using the statistical software SPSS and AMOS as analytical tools revealed the following three main findings.First, the proactive personality of students is significantly and positively related to their career maturity.Second, perceived career barriers mediate the relationship between proactive personality and career maturity.Third, family intrusiveness negatively moderates the relationship between proactive personality and perceived career barriers. In sum,on the basis of social cognitive career theory, this study developed hypotheses about the relationships among proactive personality, perceived career barriers, family intrusiveness and career maturity. All the hypotheses were supported. The results of this study provide some guidance and reference for the development of college students' career maturity.
