Action Research On Social Work Intervening In Rehabilitation Of Methadone Maintenance Patients In Guangzhou

Drug dependence causes serious harm to the national economy,population quality and social stability.According to China's anti-drug report in 2017,China has abused 955,000 heroin and other opioids.Methadone maintenance treatment treats heroin addiction among drug addicts over a longer period of time or over a long period of time using methadone oral solution to ultimately reduce drug harm and demand.The single drug treatment model is not conducive to the physical and psychological rehabilitation of patient and return to society.In the modern medical treatment model that emphasizes the bio-psycho-society trinity,social work services can provide psychological and social support for therapists and promote the rehabilitation of patients.Guangzhou is the Chinese first pilot area for methadone maintenance treatment clinics,and it is also one of the earliest areas in China to introduce social work comprehensive intervention services in the anti-drug field.This study takes the Guangzhou region as an example.On the basis of reviewing the results of previous researches,the method of action research was adopted as the carrier for the comprehensive intervention service project of methadone maintenance treatment for social workers stationed in Guangzhou.The action research process of “defining problems-plans-actions-assessment-reflection” is carried through into the project practice to understand the problems and needs of methadone maintenance patients and to test the practicality of social work services in promoting the rehabilitation of therapists.This case study focused on casework and peer education services.Through assessment of case involvement,peer education services,overall project effectiveness,and social influence,it was confirmed that case intervention and peer education services are effective for methadone maintenance patients.This study summarizes and rethinks in the process of practical promotion and refines the effective experiences in the current intervention:(1)The comprehensive intervention of physio-psycho-social rehabilitation-return to society is conducive to promoting the rehabilitation of therapists;(2)The combination of drug treatment and counseling services with practical problems,comprehensive interventions,and periodical follow-ups is a effective casework intervention.(3)Social workers as communicators and linkers of resources can effectively integrate resources for patients to solve practical problems and difficulties;(4)Initially build a training model for peer educators combined with individual training and centralized training.A group of peer educators was successfully trained to lay the foundation for the development of peer education services.There are also certain deficiencies and difficulties in the current intervention work,such as the breadth and depth of intervention in the family problems of the patients;the shortage of personnel for the project and the shortage of talent reserves.In response to these problems,the proposal for the rehabilitation of social workers involved in methadone maintenance patients was proposed,and it hopes to provide some reference for frontline social workers:(1)Adjust the direction and strategy of intervention in response to changes in the problem;(2)Establish a network of anti-narcotics social workers;(3)Improve peer education services and deepen research on peer education theory and technology;(4)To deepen the overall service model of “physiological detoxification—psychological recovery—return to society”;(5)To develop anti-drug volunteers.
