The Research Of The Male Social Workers' Career Development Dilemma And Advantages In Perspective Of Gender Roles

Under the background of the development of the family comprehensive service center when less male social workers in Guangzhou.This article through literature method and interview method,attempts to explore male social workers encountered difficulties in the process of career development,to discover the factors hindering the development of the male social work profession.At the same time,exploring the male social workers' career development advantages,combined with the difficulties and advantages,to attract more male social workers into the social work industry,or to retain more male social workers,to provide the corresponding reference material.The author defines the corresponding concepts about career development,defines the main connotation of career development into five dimensions,mainly including self-awareness,professional identity,career planning,career environment,occupational stress,etc.Due to male social workers as the main research object,the author analysis of the preliminary investigation found that the dilemma of the male social workers as well as its advantages are related with physiological gender and gender as male expectations,the author in this article,using the gender role theory as the theoretical framework of the paper,for explanation and analysis of the corresponding phenomenon.In this paper,the author interviews 12 male social workers in the main area of Guangzhou,through the contrastive analysis of the interview materials,concluded that male social worker career development difficulties andadvantages,basically has the following several aspects:At the same time,male social workers in the process of professional development predicament in five aspects,"career low social status","gender imbalance","promotion limited space","insufficient compensation levels low and family responsibility" and "gender stereotypes" take corresponding influence to "professional identity","professional environment","career planning","occupational stress" and "self-knowledge" etc.Under the influence of gender roles,the common problems in men and women,will be more trouble on the male social workers,traditional gender concepts to make a serious impact to the male social workers.In this paper,the author also found that male social workers' advantages lies in the physiological gender advantages,as well as the service brought by the male gender temperament positive advantages and opportunities for advancement,such as wider development space.In the end of this review,I will come up with some suggestions,that about improve the career development of male social workers.
