In China,it is very common for middle-aged and elderly people to take care of their grandchildren from generation to generation. The traditional culture of blood circulation makes the ancestors pay great attention to the care responsibility for their children and grandchildren. In recent years, women's employment level has been continuously improved. Most parents in double-income families lack the time and energy to take care of their children. In addition, the “two-child” policy has a boosting effect on fertility, and the middle-aged and elderly people have become the backbone of the current care for their grandchildren.Intergenerational care is the intergenerational support behavior of the ancestors to the grandchildren. It requires the labor, material, and time that the ancestors paid, which affects the quality of life of the middle-aged and the elderly. In order to comprehensively study the impact of intergenerational care behavior on the life satisfaction of middle-aged and elderly people, this paper uses the 2013 China Health and Pension Tracking Survey to control the gender impact on life satisfaction in previous studies from the perspective of individuals and families.Social and economic characteristics such as demographic characteristics and education level, wage income, and pensions, such as urban and rural areas, age, etc.,analyzed the impact of intergenerational care and care intensity on the life satisfaction of middle-aged and elderly individuals. On this basis, the differences in life satisfaction between middle-aged and elderly individuals(mainly urban-rural differences and gender differences)were further analyzed. The results show that intergenerational care behavior has a positive impact on the life satisfaction of middle-aged and elderly people.Low-intensity care will significantly improve the life satisfaction of the ancestors, and high-intensity care will weaken the positive effect. The empirical results of the family perspective show that middle-aged and elderly people care for their grandchildren's behaviors by improving family internal collaboration and improving spouse relationships to improve life satisfaction. This effect has gender,urban-rural differences, and the impact is more pronounced in women and rural middle-aged groups. Finally, based on the above empirical analysis, this paper proposes policy recommendations from the family, community, and national levels, aiming to improve the life satisfaction of middle-aged and elderly people by providing social support for intergenerational care.
