Physics research ability is the ability of students to learn in the physics course.For physics teaching,it is of great value and meaning to enhance this ability,by understanding its status quo;analyzing its influencing factors;and adjusting existing teaching strategies and educational management methods on the basis of this.This study used both quantitative and qualitative method to conduct research.In terms of quantitative research,this study designed the "Preliminary Junior High School Students' Physics Research Ability Scale" and "Junior Middle School Students' Physics Research Ability Influencing Factors Scale".We ask 798 students in 22 classes from 3 middle schools of a Shenzhen district to fill out our surveys.The survey results were analyzed with SPSS16.0.The analysis offers us a general idea of the middle school students' scientific inquiry ability,and explores the degree of influence of each factors on the inquiry ability.In terms of qualitative research,this study designs relevant interview and observation outlines based on our research purposes and topics.They provide a more in-depth and vivid picture of middle school students' physics research ability.From our survey found,we find:The present status of middle school students' physics research ability shows that the middle school students' research ability is at a medium level overall.Specifically,"learning initiative" is at a medium level but there are two types of authenticity;"strategy and adaptability" are at a high level and show diverse forms;"participation" is at a medium level and there is a possibility of disruption."reflection and interpretation" and "target awareness" are at a high level;"persistence and attention" is at a medium level and also depends on teachers' timely guidance.The difference analysis shows that the middle school students' physics research ability is not significantly influenced by difference in gender and year of classes,but is greatly influenced in class types.The analysis of the current influencing factors of physics research ability shows that students' "existing knowledge and experience" and "motivation" are at a high level,and "scientific research activities" and "interests" are at a medium level.The difference analysis also shows physics research ability is not significantly influenced by difference in gender and year of classes,but is greatly influenced in class types.Interview data show that each influencing factor has externalities and delays.According to the quantitative and qualitative research,this study gives strategies to improve the exploration ability of physical science from the aspects of school management,class management and physics teaching.The school needs to provide experimental equipments and proper facility.The improvements include but are not limited to evaluation and teaching system.Teachers need to provide students with more hands on opportunity to study physics and create a supportive learning environment to promote active learning among students.Attractiveness and selectivity are essential to physics teaching.
