Objective: The first-year junior high school students(hereinafter referred to as the first-year students),which are an important part of the youth group,have entered a period of rapid development both physically and psychologically,and are also an important turning point in growth.At this stage,the junior high school students in the area of self-cognition produced great changes.At the same time,the first-year students have just faced the pressure of entrance examination,into the new school,in the face of a new environment and new people,as well as the establishment of new interpersonal relationship,the importance of interpersonal competence gradually highlighted.This study used the questionnaire survey method and the experiment method to explore the positive effects of Taekwondo on physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence of first-year students and to explore the relationship between physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence of first-year students.To verify the mediating effect of physical self-esteem in the interpersonal competence of Taekwondo,thus further explore effective ways to promote the physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence of first-year students.Methods: The experimental design used in this study was pre-test and post-test.This study used the questionnaire survey method and the experiment method carried out an instructional experiment among 63 first-year students of Inner Mongolia.The experimental subjects were divided into experimental group(32)and control group(31).First,the pre-test was conducted before the instructional experiment,that is,the questionnaire survey method was used to test physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence of the experiment group and the control group.Then,16 weeks of Taekwondo exercise intervention was applied to the experimental group.After the end of the instructional experiment,the post-test was carried out,that is,the physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence of the experimental group and the control group were tested.Finally,statistical methods were used to process the data,In order to observe the effect of Taekwondo on the physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence of the first-year students,at the same time,the relationship between physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence of first-year students was studied,and physical self-esteem as the mediating effect test of Taekwondo related dimensions of interpersonal competence.Results:The experimental group and the control group were satisfied with their physical appearancesuch as height,weight and body shape.The satisfaction with their sport ability such as endurance,sensitivity,physical coordination is poor.The experimental group and the control group have strong ability of emotional support and conflict management,which can better respond to the emotion expressed by the other party and deal with the conflict in the communication process.Their ability to actively communicate and self-disclosure is poor,and they are not good at actively engaging with others and not good at or refuse to show their true thoughts and true feelings.Before the instructional experiment,there was no significant difference in the overall level of body self-esteem and its dimensions between the experimental group and the control group.After the instructional experiment,there was a significant difference in the overall level of body self-esteem between the experimental group and the control group.Sports ability,Physical quality and Self-worth all showed significant differences.There was no significant difference in physical condition and physical attractiveness.However,the scores of the experimental group on these two dimensions were improved after the experiment compared with before the instructional experiment.Before the instructional experiment,there was no significant difference in the overall level of interpersonal competence and its dimensions between the experimental group and the control group.After the instructional experiment,there was a significant difference in the overall level of interpersonal competence between the experimental group and the control group.Conflict management showed significant differences.There was no significant difference in actively communication,appropriate rejection,self-disclosure and emotional support.However,the scores of the experimental group on these four dimensions were improved after the experiment compared with before the instructional experiment.There is a significant correlation between the physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence of the first-year students.Through the three-step regression analysis based on the mediating effect test proposed by professor Wen ZhongLin,the results show that body self-esteem has a significant mediating effect between Taekwondo and interpersonal competence.Conclusion:At this stage,the physical self-esteem of the first-year students is at a medium-to-lower level.They are satisfied with their physical appearance,and the satisfaction with their sport ability is poor.They have strong ability of emotional support and conflict management.Their ability to actively communicate and self-disclosure is poor.Taekwondo has a positive effect on the overall level of physical self-esteem and the threedimensions of sport ability,physical quality and self-worth of the first-year students.Taekwondo has a positive effect on the overall level of interpersonal competence and the dimension of conflict management of the first-year students.There is a significant correlation between the physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence of the first-year students.Taekwondo had apparent prediction function to physical self-esteem and interpersonal competence.Physical self-esteem has a significant mediating effect between Taekwondo and interpersonal competence.It shows that Taekwondo can further promote interpersonal competence by promoted the level of physical self-esteem.
