With the construction of "New Engineering" and the "Fudan Consensus" put forward,Higher Engineering Education in China has received extensive attention.Under the background that our country has changed from a big manufacturing country to a strong manufacturing country,Higher Engineering Education is of great significance to our country and provides talent support for the strong manufacturing country.The competition of comprehensive strength among countries in the 21 st century is the competition of talents,which is the foundation a of building a strong manufacturing country.However,in the environment of national development and fierce international competition,it is difficult for employers to recruit engineering talents with strong abilities,while it is difficult for engineering graduates to find suitable jobs.The reason is that the engineering talents trained by Higher Engineering Education are not innovative enough,and their practical ability is not strong enough to meet the needs of employers,which has also been a difficult problem in the reform of Engineering Education in China.Relatively speaking,Higher Engineering Education in the United States is in the leading position in the world.It enjoys a very high reputation both at home and abroad,and has trained many high-quality innovative engineering talents.How to train outstanding engineering undergraduate talents in our country needs to consider the actual situation of our country,summarize the beneficial experience of American engineering undergraduate talents training,and apply it flexibly to our universities.Although Olin College of Engineering was established relatively late,it is a rising star of engineering colleges.Its training of engineering talents has distinct characteristics and enjoys a good reputation in the world,which has reference significance for our country.This study takes the Olin College of Engineering as an example and comprehensively uses the methods of literature research,case study,andand compariston to analyze the characteristics of the engineering talents training in Olin College of Engineering,explores the problems existing in the training of engineering undergraduates in China,and summarizes the enlightenment and reference of the training of engineering talents in Olin College of Engineering to our country.The full text is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research background,research purpose and significance,literature review,research content and research methods.The second part introduces the relevant concepts and theoretical basis.The third part first states the reasons for the selection of Olin College of Engineering,gives a brief introduction to Olin College of Engineering,and then summarizes its characteristics from seven aspects:the school concept,training objectives,enrollment system,curriculum setting,teaching methods,training approaches and quality assurance system.The fourth part firstly summarizes the achievements of engineering talents training in China in recent years,and analyses the problems existing in the training of engineering undergraduates in our universities.The fifth part summarizes the enlightenment of the training of engineering talents in Olin College of Engineering to our country.The study finds that the Olin College of Engineering has fully deepened the concept of "student-centered" and other school-running concepts;aimed at cultivating innovative talents with multiple comprehensive thinking abilities to meet the challenges of globalization;fully considered the applicants' various abilities and development potential;created a unique "Olin Triangle" curriculum system and project-based teaching methods;and established the joint cultivation mode and improve the quality assurance system.Although China's Higher Engineering Education has made remarkable achievements,the survey found that there are still some problems in the training of engineering undergraduate talents,such as school-running concept,training objectives,curriculum,teaching methods,evaluation system,teachers and training methods.Combining with the characteristics of the training of engineering undergraduates in Higher Engineering Education,aiming atthe problems existing in the training of engineering undergraduates in our country,this paper summarizes the enlightenment that colleges and universities should coordinate the relationship between the scale and quality of engineering talent training;aiming at training thecomprehensive ability of engineering talents;renew and improve the curriculum system;emphasize the subject position of students in learning;construct a reasonable evaluation system;build the educational mode of school-enterprise cooperation and school-institute alliance and give full play to the role of the government to promote the implementation of engineering certification system.The reform of rngineering talents training system is an urgent problem to be solved in Higher Engineering Education of China.A good training system for engineering talents is conducive to the overall development of students,the improvement of students' innovative consciousness and ability,the promotion of teachers' personal ability and the sustainable development of schools.Through the analysis of the training of engineering talents of Olin College of Engineering in America,this paper aims to arouse the attention of the society to the Higher Engineering Education in China,promote the reform of the training system of engineering undergraduate in China,and provide some references to promote the overall development of Higher Engineering Education in China.
