A Study On Contemporary Egyptian Overseas Students(1952-2018)

The dispatch of Egyptian overseas students began in the Nasser period,many achievements have been made after nearly 70 years of development.The size of Egyptian overseas students showed a growing trend generally and fluctuated occasionally,the growth rate of the number of overseas students increased especially after 2011.Vertically,the size of Egyptian students continues to increase,but there is still a significant gap with other Middle East powers.In the early modern era,Egyptian overseas students were mainly funded by the government,and they are more dependent on the support of program exchange and foreign scholarship at present.Egyptian students generally pay more attention to the field of science and technology.During the Nasser and Sadat period,the dispatch of Egyptian overseas students was greatly influenced by political factors,the main destination for overseas students has experienced from the Soviet Union and eastern Europe to western countries,the Egyptian students generally pay more attention to economic support and the quality of education,they are mainly concentrated in Western Europe,North America and the Arab region since the Mubarak.Some students choose to stay abroad after finish their study,which had a bad effect on Egypt.Egyptian students often face many difficulties when they study abroad,especially when they are in non-Islamic countries,cultural differences and discrimination caused by religion have different impacts on their study,living and even personal safety.There are many outstanding figures among Egyptian overseas students,they have made important contributions to contemporary Egypt,mainly including influencing and leading the direction of Egyptian politics and economy,promoting the progress of scientific research,enhancing the reflection on Egyptian society and promoting the development of Egyptian foreign relations.There are some similarities between the dispatching of students in contemporary Egypt and that in China.In the short term,the number of overseas students in Egypt is unlikely to see a breakthrough growth and the discrimination they suffer will continue for a long time due to domestic and foreign factors.Egypt is a country along the route of " The Belt and Road Initiative",China can promote the development of bilateral relations by accepting more Egyptian students.
