The game,running throughout the whole history of human civilization as a culture,is one of the eternal proposition of philosophical research.With the postmodern turn of western philosophy,it is necessary to study the cultural philosophy of game from the perspective of postmodernism.As one of the most important forms of media in the digital age,video game has profound influence on human social life.The cultural phenomena arising out of a certain video game with distinctive characteristics is able to reflect certain trends in popular culture,and the exploration of such trends provides us with a way to reveal the changing flow of thoughts in contemporary society.Taking Bloodborne,a case of game as the research object,this dissertation explores how its narrative mode and worldview theme are formed from the perspective of postmodernist philosophy,then makes an observation of the cultural phenomena caused by the game practice in postmodern situation based on database consumption theory,and reflects how to achieve self-rescue of human nature in such situation.The dissertation is mainly divided into three parts.Firstly,to demonstrate that monomyth is the meta-narrative of heroic mythology,and the narrative mode of Bloodborne is similar to monomyth in form,but different in function.Achieving the criticism of meta-narrative by denying monomyth,the game embodies the pursuit of pluralism and uniqueness and the practical significance of directing artistic creation of Lyotard's postmodernist philosophy.Secondly,to demonstrate that Bloodborne restores and inherits the classic elements of Cthulhu Mythos and its worldview theme:cosmicism,which denies the subjectivity and rational supremacy of modernity as a philosophically anti-enlightenment thought.Continuing the denial and critique of modernity,the game reflects the conceptual characteristic of postmodernism,which is to critique and transcend modernity.Finally,to demonstrate that there is a close connection between Bloodborne and the postmodern Japanese society,and the special text strategy of the game is the direct cause of the phenomenon that the audience's plotting.The essence of this behavior is to call for the return of meta-narrative in postmodern situation.The dissertation also has some thoughts on the postmodern ideas of Lyotard and Hiroki Azuma.The existence of multiple narratives should be affirmed,while meta-narrative should not be eliminated naturally.Postmodernity is sometimes a trend,but modernity still seems to be the long-term pursuit of society.
