With the popularity of technology and the slow rise of the mental entertainment consumption market,video games have become one of the communication media with strong interactivity and penetration,a common form of entertainment and leisure in current society,and are subtly influencing players' cognitive and behavioral approaches.As a kind of social and cultural product,the characterization and narrative content of video games as well as the hidden values and ideologies behind them all need to be paid attention to.This paper considers video games as a kind of cultural products reflecting social values,and combines socio-cultural theory,narrative theory and semiotic theory to study the gender bias and gender consciousness domination in video games.The first chapter of this paper first defines the concepts involved in the paper.Chapter 2 takes the female characters in popular video games in 2020 as the research sample,and takes a macro view of the image,narrative status and narrative discourse of current female game characters from the perspective of content analysis.Chapters 3 and 4 take "story" and "discourse" in narratology as the entry points,and analyze the story structure and the logic of narrative discourse of female narratives in video games with specific cases.Chapter 5 treats video games as a kind of cultural product,and explores the social values and cultural concepts behind video games from the metaphorical social meaning of women's narratives in video games to the influence of real society.The study finds that in the popular video games of 2020,the image of female game characters begins to move from single to multiple,but they are still subject to the solidified aesthetics of the male gaze;in terms of narrative,the number of female game characters who gain narrative power gradually increases,but only a small number of female game characters can tell their own stories in the first-person narrative perspective;in terms of discourse,female voices are still subject to male The discourse is still dominated by the power of men.Stereotypes and gender bias against women still exist in the video game industry.As a virtual mirror of the real society,video games also reflect the male gaze and female gender bias that still exist in the current society,and women are still looking for a breakthrough in female consciousness under the statute of social gender.
