With the rapid development of the popularization of higher education, the income of higher education of the educated individual presents uncertainty. In the face of the argument of "university value" and "unworthy",the long-term trend of the individual income of higher education and the current income pattern need to be followed up by theoretical research.Based on this, this paper,in the context of higher education popularization, based on the macro reality of higher education development in China and the individual income at the micro level,on the basis of combing the social background and policy basis of the process of higher education popularization in China, uses the macro statistical data to describe the evolution of the development of higher education popularization in China. At the same time, using the data of CFPS 2016 and CFPS 2018 adult database, through the establishment of Mincer wage income equation, this paper makes an in-depth study on the changes of personal higher education income in the process of popularization and its changes in gender, urban and rural dimensions. The results show that:First,in the process of the popularization of higher education since the reform and opening up,the monetary income of individual higher education in China has shown a downward trend. At the same time, non monetary income is gradually rising. This shows that with the popularization of higher education in China, non monetary income of higher education is gradually recognized by individuals, and monetary income is no longer the primary reason for individuals to choose to accept higher education.Second, women's higher education income is higher than men's.This conclusion is in line with the trend of gender difference in educational income in China, which means that higher education can improve the educational income difference caused by gender difference to some extent.Third, the income gap between urban and rural higher education has gradually narrowed. The expansionof higher education can improve the probability of rural students entering colleges and universities, and steadily increase the educational income of the educated with agricultural household registration, which also means that higher education can alleviate the educational income difference caused by urban-rural differences to some extent. In addition, this paper verifies the results of econometric analysis through interviews. The results show that in the process of popularization of higher education in China, individuals hold a positive attitude towards the benefits of higher education, and there is a correlation between the recognition of the benefits of higher education and the level of higher education. In addition, with the improvement of the popularization of higher education, the individual's expectation of higher education income has a downward trend, but most individuals do not regard the gender and urban-rural differences in higher education income as a very serious problem.Based on the results of quantitative analysis and qualitative interviews, this paper further discusses the popularization policy of higher education and the value of higher education.Generally speaking, this paper holds that the policy of popularization of higher education has inestimable positive significance for the educated individuals. In the new stage of popularization development,it is still necessary for higher education to appropriately increase the scale of higher education on the premise of ensuring the quality. At the same time,in view of the change of individual income pattern of higher education, higher education should not only continue to strengthen professional education, but also accumulate more specialized human capital for the uneducated individuals,so as to cultivate more specialized human capital for the country.
