The importance of scientific literacy improvement has been gradually recognized regarding the rapid development of technology.The science and technology museum has thus played an increasingly important role in social science education.Innovative exhibits in science and technology museum as an important educational resource provide continuous vitality.Exhibits need reasonable design to realize its educational function.The aim of this paper is to focus on the innovative teaching activities based on the optical exhibits.A self-designed exhibit to explicit laser communication technology was designed and an original teaching activity based on which was developed.The self-designed exhibit on the one hand enriched the types of optical exhibits in the science and technology museum,and on the other hand changed the phenomenon of "exhibition without teaching" and "emphasis on exhibits but not teaching".During the implementation of the exhibition,young people were able to actively participate in a team to complete the inquiry tasks,teachers were able to guide students to understand the scientific knowledge embodied in the exhibition and the history of optical communication development.In this process,four aspects namely scientific knowledge,scientific attitude,scientific inquiry,technology and environmental have been improved.From the design and development of "exhibits" to "education",this paper provides a complete practical example for the science and technology museum to enhance the level of science education.This paper consists of the following sections.Chapter 1: Background,research content,methods,and the purpose of this paper.Chapter 2: Current research status.Current status of the exhibits and exhibit design in the science and technology museum were summarized.At the same time,the Science and Technology Museum of Shandong Province and the Science and Technology Museum of Zhejiang Province were taken as examples to demonstrate the current status of optical exhibits.Besides,the characteristics of the current science and technology museum exhibition and teaching activities were summarized,providing certain design ideas for the implementation.Chapter 3: Design of the exhibit,including the pre-study,experimental phase and results.Chapter 4: Theoretical basis of the exhibition teaching activity.This exhibition teaching activity based on the exhibits adopts the inquiry teaching method,this chapter combed the three models of inquiry teaching,combed the meaning of applying inquiry teaching to the exhibition teaching activity.Chapter 5: Design,implementation,and evaluation of the exhibition and teaching activity..In this chapter,the teaching activity based on this exhibit in line with inquiry-based education was put through.Design ideas,teaching content,objectives and process of the teaching activities are mainly presented.Finally,we evaluated the exhibition and teaching activity and analyzed the pros and cons of this activity.Chapter 6: Summary and Outlook.A summary of the design and production of exhibits in the science and technology museum and the development and implementation of exhibit-based educational activities is presented,and several recommendations are made.At the same time,the current study is analyzed for its shortcomings and the depth and breadth of its future research content and direction is foreseen.
