At present,the research of education history is mainly carried out from traditional fields such as ideology,practice and system,forming a three-pronged research situation of education thought history,education system history,and education activity history.However,educational material is also an important angle to cut into modern education.The first national exhibition in modern China,the Nanyang Industrial Exposition,set up an education exhibition area and solicited educational material exhibits from the country.These educational exhibits mainly came from all levels of schools,educational equipment companies,educational associations and other institutions and organizations closely related to education.Some of them were teaching aids,some were achievements of teachers and students.By exploring the educational and cultural information behind the educational exhibits,we can more directly understand the development of education in the late Qing Dynasty.By analyzing the viewpoints of the award-winning educational exhibits and the researchers of educational exhibits,we can see the value orientation of educational development hidden in the judges and researchers of educational exhibits.This research is based on the educational exhibits at the Nanyang Industrial Exposition,which is a material in the history of education,and cuts into the education of the late Qing Dynasty from the perspective of the history of educational material and culture.Based on the extensive collection of relevant historical materials,this article uses the method of documentary data,case studies,and quantitative history research,through the discussion on the categories of the Nanyang Industrial Exposition’s educational exhibits,the solicitation and organization activities,the actual solicited educational exhibits,and the review and research of educational exhibits,to analyze the general situation of education development in the late Qing Dynasty and the implicit educational development presented by the Nanyang Industrial Exposition’s educational exhibits Value orientation,further to study the influence of the Nanyang Industrial Exposition educational product exhibition on the development of modern education,and explore the ancient and modern relationship between educational product exhibition and education based on the Nanyang Industrial Exposition.First of all,from the perspective of the purpose of the Nanyang Industrial Exposition’s setting up of educational exhibits,it is concluded that the exhibition have the educational pursuit of promoting social education,industrial education,and implementing "new learning".Secondly,the general situation of the exhibition’s solicitation of educational exhibits is restored from two aspects: the delineation of the categories of educational exhibits solicitation and the development of solicitation activities.Then,through the analysis of the educational exhibits of the Nanyang Industrial Exposition,and then to see the education in the late Qing Dynasty.It is concluded that the educational exhibits of the Nanyang Industrial Exposition were mixed with the old and the new.The education in the late Qing Dynasty transitioned from "tradition" to "modern".It further focus on the three types of education of industrial education,normal education and general education,and see the power of "tradition" in the transformation of education.In the Nanyang Industrial Exposition,Jiangsu,Zhejiang,Zhili,and Guangdong had not only many educational exhibits,but also the largest number of awards,showing the inter-provincial gap of new-style education in the late Qing Dynasty.From the perspective of different types of educational exhibits,it is that the picture exhibits were the most,but they deviated from practicality,and the science education exhibits were the latest,but the quality is uneven,reflecting the immature knowledge system in the late Qing Dynasty and the insufficient absorption of Western learning.Then,it analyzes the review and research activities of the Nanyang Industrial Exposition,and explores the educational value orientation hidden behind the review and research: to promote new learning,industrial education and internalization of "Western learning".Furthermore,it analyzes the influence of the Nanyang Industrial Exposition’s educational product exhibition.The value orientation of this exhibition had an impact on modern education,extensively and deeply promoting the recognition of modern education in the academic circle,and promoting the update of school educational equipment.It promoted society’s internalization of Western learning and laid the foundation for modern industrial education.It also promoted the creation of educational museums that popularized scientific knowledge.It provided a reference for the preparation of the Panama Exposition during the Republic of China and demonstrated new educational achievements abroad.Finally,this article further think about the ancient and modern relationship between educational product exhibitions and education.Modern educational product exhibitions can present and lead the development of education,but the current educational product exhibitions have weakened the function of presenting educational development,more is the introduction of the most advanced educational technology into schools,thereby promoting the modernization of education.
