Experiment is an important factor of junior school physics class instruction.If the laboratory equipment can not satisfy the needs of teaching,teachers can improve their own teaching level by designing and conducting experiments with common objects in daily life.More importantly,students can improve their interest in learning,exercise their hands-on ability and satisfy their desire to explore when they participate in self-made experiments.What's more,it can highlight their dominant position in class,and cultivate their ability of scientific inquiry.This paper covered the applied research on how to improve junior school physical classroom instruction through self-made experiment in five sections:The first section walked through existing similar research globally to summarize current context of the research topic.The second section,which is the theoretical part of self-made experiment,concludes that the self-made experiment should obey the following principle:safe,interesting,obvious,scientific and materials easy to get.There are five methods to collect the materials:accumulate,recycle,dismantle,solicit,and purchase.The section summarizes eight steps of doing the experiment as well as the matters needing attention during the process.35 self-made experiments are categorized into 5 types:the heuristic introduction type,the expand content type,the process of inquiry type,the enhancement effect type and the close to life type.The third section is the practical part of self-made experiment.It showed six examples of using self-made experiment in class,including two classroom demonstration experiments,two group research experiments and two homework experiments,and conducted a horizontal analysis on instruction effectiveness before and after using self-made experiments in few aspects:strengthening the connection between theoretical educational class and real world practical application,arousing the enthusiasm of students in class,cultivating students' innovation consciousness and scientific inquiry ability.The fourth section is the feedback survey in the form of interview and questionnaire for the self-made solenoid experiment,one of the examples covered in previous section.The survey and questionnaire mainly collected feedback on possible improvements of the class teaching methodology,teaching effectiveness of the self-made solenoid,the interest of self-made solenoid experiment,the overall score of self-made solenoid experiment.The last section summarizes the research achievements and listed future improvements.The study showed that self-made experiment played a better role compared to using equipment in teaching.It is highly praised by students and teachers who adopted the practice.Self-made experiments are effective in improving junior high school physics class quality.We can maximize the benefit of experiment teaching in physics class by emphasizing,promoting,and developing self-made experiment.
