The Influence Of Parenting Style On Meaning In Life Of High School Students

Meaning in life means that an individual understands and perceives the meaning of his own life,and can realize the goals,tasks,and missions of his own life.It includes two parts:the presence of meaning and search for meaning.When the presence of meaning is higher,it means that the individual has a higher sense of meaning;when individuals have a high level of search for meaning,it means they are trying to find meaning in their lives.They are related,but not in conflict.Even if the level of the individual's presence of meaning is higher,he may still have a higher search for meaning.Meaning in life has important effects on people's physical and mental health and happiness,while it is also affected and restricted by many factors.Studies have shown that parenting style is related to meaning in life,and different types of parenting style have different effects on the meaning of life.Besides,some studies have found that coping style is another important factor that affects meaning in life.Parenting style will also influence the adoption of coping style.Therefore,this study took 500 high school students as the research object,adopted a questionnaire survey,and used the Chinese version of simple parenting style questionnaire and simple coping style scale and meaning in life Questionnaire,and data analysis through SPSS 22.0.We studied the relationship between parenting style,coping style and sense of meaning in life,and examined the mediating role of coping style in the influence of parenting style on meaning in life.Based on this study,an intervention study was conducted to provide group counseling interventions for coping style of high school students with a low sense of life.The study concluded:(1)The overall level of high school students' meaning in life is above the average level,and the score of the search for meaning is slightly higher than that of the presence of meaning.Among all high school students,girls' total score of meaning in life and search for meaning is significantly higher than that of male students,and sophomore'total score of life meaning is significantly higher than that of senior three students.(2)Parenting style is significantly correlated with meaning in life in senior high school students.the emotional warmth of parents was significantly positively correlated with the total score of meaning in life,presence of meaning and search for meaning.The rejection and overprotection of mothers are significantly negatively correlated with the presence of meaning,and the total score of sense of meaning of life is significantly negatively correlated with the rejection of mothers.(3)Parenting style influences high school students' coping style.When emotional warmth in parenting style scores higher,high school students are more likely to adopt positive coping style.However,high school students are more likely to adopt negative coping style when the rejection and overprotection dimension of parental rearing style score higher.(4)There was a significant positive correlation between positive coping style and the total score of meaning in life and all dimensions,indicating that high school students who adopted a more positive coping style also scored higher in sense of meaning in life.(5)The positive coping style plays a significant mediating role in the influence of the emotional warmth of parents on the total score of meaning in life,presence of meaning and the search for meaning.And the positive coping style plays a completely mediating role in the influence of the emotional warmth of the mother on search for meaning.(6).:After the intervention group received group counseling,their total score of meaning in life,presence of meaning and search for meaning all improved significantly,and the scores of positive coping style also improved significantly.Group counseling works well.This study demonstrated that coping style plays an intermediary role in the influence of Parenting style on meaning in life,and group counseling can effectively enhance meaning in life of high school students.This can not only serve as a basis for follow-up research but also provide an effective way to enhance meaning in life.
