As a basic public service,compulsory education still has problems such as insufficient total amount of high-quality education resources and unreasonable layout.Group-based schooling is considered to be an important way to promote the balanced development of compulsory education,but less attention has been paid to its implementation.This research focuses on the goals of group-run schools and the educational output at the student level.It attempts to answer two questions: 1.Does group-run schools have any effect on improving students' academic performance and cognitive ability? 2.Can group-run schools narrow the gap in education levels among regions and promote balanced development of education? This paper uses empirical analysis of CEPS data to answer the above questions.The study found that: First,compulsory education group education has an effect on improving students' academic performance,but compared with family,financial and school location factors,the impact is weaker.Second,compulsory education group education has an improving effect on students' cognitive ability,which has a greater impact than factors such as family,finance,and school location.Third,the impact of group-run schools on students' cognitive abilities is greater than their academic performance,because students' cognitive abilities can be largely explained by regional and school levels,and they are obviously affected by cultural factors,while group-run schools promote teaching The flow and integration of cultural resources such as ideas,management experience,excellent teacher resources,and distinctive cultural courses have improved the students' cognitive ability.Fourth,compulsory education group-run schools can reduce the gap in education output levels between regions to a certain extent,and promote balanced development of education.The empirical analysis affirmed the role of group-run schools in promoting the quality and balance of compulsory education.At the same time,it also found that the practice of group-run schools throughout the country is still insufficient.Therefore,countermeasures for optimizing group education are proposed to promote the highquality and balanced development of compulsory education services.
