Illustrations are an important part of textbooks.Making good use of textbook illustrations can effectively help teachers teach and students learn.According to the literature reviews,researchers are currently studying the usage and application strategies of textbook illustrations from the perspective of teachers.However,the researches on how the students use the textbook illustrations are less,neither are the researches on the difficulties and needs of students using textbook illustrations.Therefore,this study mainly focuses from the perspective of students,explores the problems and solutions in the process of applying textbook illustrations,and gives some guidance to the teachers' teaching based on this research.First of all,by reviewing the literature,the research status of textbook illustration and textbook illustration teaching is summarized,so is the research status of biology textbook illustration.At the same time,the concept of teaching materials and textbooks,images and illustrations,textbook illustrations are defined.Moreover,the elements and classifications contained in textbook illustrations are clarified.The relevant theories are also involved in the study.Secondly,the questionnaire survey and interview method were used to conduct a preliminary survey on front-line teachers and high school students to find out the problems and needs in the application of student textbook illustrations,which are concentrated on four aspects:(1)The student lacks the ability to connect structure and function;(2)The student lacks the ability to transfer textbook illustrations;(3)The student lacks the ability to convert texts;(4)The student wants to train the ability of self-analysis of graphics and the combination of graphics and text by making use of the illustrations.The main reasons for these problems are:(1)Some textbook illustrationscan't meet the students' aesthetics and have low practicality.The graphics can't be tightly connected with the texts;(2)The teachers' illustration teaching focus is not prominent,and the students' learning needs for different types of illustrations can't be satisfied;(3)The teaching method of teacher illustrations is limited,which don't meet the students' automatic learning needs.Thirdly,the comparative research method is used to compare the old and new textbook illustrations in high school biology,and analyze the adaptation of the new textbook illustrations to the learning needs of students and whether the new textbook illustrations can meet the students' need to learn independently.Meanwhile,according to the learning needs of students and the characteristics of illustrations in new textbooks,a targeted illustration teaching strategy is proposed,and four illustration teaching cases with student automatic learning as the core are designed.Finally,using the action research method,taking "aerobic respiration process diagram" and "humoral immunity schematic diagram" as examples,the study conducts teaching practice,observes the characteristics of students using new textbook illustration learning,analyzes the feasibility of teaching strategies,and optimizes teaching strategies through reflection.The main conclusions are drawn from the research: students have difficulties in applying different types of illustrations,the reasons for which are related to both the teachers' teaching and textbook illustrations.Through comparative research,it has been found that the connections between the graphics and the texts and within the graphics are more relevant after the illustrations change in the next textbook,which provides good conditions for the teachers to carry out teaching with students' independent learning as the core.Through action research,it found that designing teaching strategies based on students 'learning needs,taking students' independent learning as the core,and combining illustration teaching with new textbooks can improve the efficiency of illustration teaching.The innovation of this study is to analyze the adaptation of the new textbook illustrations to the needs of students,especially to study the students' learning needs of "morphological structure model diagram" and "physiological process diagram",which provides a reference for the teaching strategies.
