Illustration originates from “illustraio”.It is also called inset,with the meaning of“lighting”.According to “Ci Hai”,in the narrow sense,illustration can make texts more readable and understandable.In the broad sense,illustrations include illustrating pictures,cartoons,advertisements,film and TV posters,art design and picture books.With the advancement of science and technology,the popularization of cultural education and the proliferation of print media and we-media,we have ushered in an “era of reading pictures”.Various kinds of pictures are presented in large numbers to people.Reading picture has become a fashion.Text is no longer the only source of information for the general public.The illustration,as an auxiliary to the text,has been widely used in various fields,bringing unusual visual impacts and enjoyment to people.The textbook illustration,as a typical example of book-like illustrations,can make up for deficiencies of the text in expressing something abstract and vividly reproduce knowledge points in textbooks.In Chinese language textbooks,illustrations can be added to help students to understand the content of texts.Meanwhile,good illustrations can leave imagination space to students,expand their logical thinking and enrich their emotional thinking.For primary school students who develop at the stage of concrete operation to understand things through intuitive and visual things,illustrations in textbooks are especially important.In recent years,an increasing number of front-line teachers have begun to recognize that illustrations in Chinese language textbooks play a non-negligible role in the development of primary school students.However,according to existing research,illustrations in Chinese language textbooks have many problems,such as the simplification of the content and form in the illustration design and rough printing and so on.Talking about the integrating degree of illustrations and texts,some people think that some illustrations have no use for students' learning,because some illustration have nothing to do with the context of texts.Some scholars investigated the use of illustrations and found that many students are not satisfied with textbook illustrations.Many students ignore the important role of textbook illustrations in teaching,and just see the illustrations as something decorative.That is to say,they ignore the great auxiliary role of illustrations in textbooks.Some scholars even pointed out that some illustrations in existingChinese language illustrations appear to ignore the social equality.Illustrations in some Chinese language textbooks for primary school students show a tendency to highlight urban experience but neglect rural experience.Illustrations serve as a reading-assisting system for textbook,to help students in learning.However,at present,the problem of illustrations has become increasingly worrying.Therefore,in this paper,a study is made on 2 sets of classical Chinese language textbooks for primary school students,that is,textbooks of the People's Education Press and textbooks of the Jiangsu Education Press,to find out how to properly design illustrations to more effectively promote students' learning and increase students' interest,and find good methods for teachers' intelligent use of illustrations to maximize the effect of illustrations.
