Storytelling is a high-level cognitive processing activity performed by children using language.When children tell stories,they use their cognition and experience to arrange various parts of the story according to certain rules.This rule that integrates the various parts of the story is the structure of the story.Due to different growing environments,the complexity of children's storytelling structure also varies.Among the many factors that influence children's storytelling structure,family factors cannot be ignored.As more and more parents value parent-child reading,and play an important role in children's language development.The growth of children is affected by their parents and family environment.Parents' attention on stories in parent-child reading directly affects the effect of reading,and has an impact on the complexity of children's storytelling structure.The purpose of research is to understand the current state of parents' attention on stories,analyze the characteristics of the complexity of storytelling structure for children aged 5-6,then explore the potential correlation between the two variables.The objects of this research were 92 children aged 5-6 and their parents from kindergarten B in Chongqing.Based on method of in-depth interview and observation,this research analyzes the parents' attention on stories and levels of attention.It also uses Stein and Glenn's division of story structure elements and Botvin & Sutton-Smith's story plot structure analysis method to comprehensively analyze the structural complexity of children's free storytelling.The main conclusions obtained are as follows.1.Parents' attention on stories is generally at the lower middle level.The level of attention from high to low is: the educational value of the story,the plot of the story,the language elements of the story,the emotional experience of the characters in the story,and the structure of the story.2.There are significant differences in parents' attention on the language elements of the story,the plot of the story,and the total score of parents' attention in terms of parents' different ages and occupations.There is no significant difference in the parents ' attention on stories in terms of parents' educational background and monthly family income.3.The types of stories told by children aged 5-6 are mainly fantasy fiction and life experience stories.The complexity of children's storytelling structure is above the middle level.4.The complexity of storytelling structure and its various dimensions are significantly different in the gender of children.Girls use the "background" and " attempt " story structural elements and the story plot structure is significantly higher than that of boys.Parent education,monthly family income,the frequency and duration of parent storytelling are not an influential factor in the complexity of the storytelling structure of children.5.The complexity of children's storytelling structure is significantly positively correlated with parents pay attention to the educational value of the story,the language elements of the story,and the plot of the story.It is not significantly correlated with parents to attention to the structure of the story and the emotional experience of the characters in the story.6.It is found that parents pay attention to the story's educational value,plot,language elements have a positive predictive effect on the complexity of children's storytelling structure.Parents pay attention to the story's educational value,plot,language elements,structure have a positive predictive effect on the elements of children's story structure.Parents pay attention to the story's educational value,language elements,plot and educational have a positive predictive effect on children's story plot structure hierarchy.
