A strong youth makes a strong country.The middle school is the key period of the whole life,guide the middle school students to establish the correct values is related to the future of the country.To do a good job in ideological and political education for middle school students and train qualified builders and successors for socialism is the historical mission entrusted to educators in the new era.This paper compares American middle school civic education with Chinese middle school ideological and political education by means of literature and comparative research,and summarizes the experience from the USA,in order to bring new ideas for the improvement and development of Chinese middle school ideological and political education.This paper expounds the educational objectives,educational contents and educational channels of the two countries respectively,summarizes the differences in the above three aspects between American middle school civic education and Chinese middle school ideological and political education,and puts forward some suggestions on the improvement and development of Chinese middle school ideological and political education.Based on the introduction of the concepts of civic education and ideological and political education and the relationship between them,this paper briefly summarizes the historical process of American civic education and Chinese ideological and political education,which is more conducive to the objective view of the two kinds of education and the overall grasp of the relationship between the two kinds of education.Through the education target,education content,and the comparison of education way three aspects,respectively in the two countries to implement characteristics and differences of the two kinds of education process,such as: on the education target has a certain similarity,for the country to cultivate meet the social needs of qualified citizens,but its service object isthe root of difference.In terms of educational content,both of them attach great importance to legal education and patriotism education.However,due to different political systems and cultural backgrounds,the two countries have formed distinct characteristics in specific curriculum arrangement,textbook selection and teaching plan.In the way of education,the United States always adopts the way of implicit education,which to some extent hides the essence of its political education.This warns us to "speak politics clearly" and guide students to build confidence in the road,theory,system and culture.After a series of comparison and analysis,and insisted on the principle of socialist core values education in our country,combining with the pros and cons of American high school civic education,puts forward some Suggestions that its advantages we should learn to learn,its shortcoming we should also improve crisis consciousness,avoid potential problems,thus ensuring the sound development of middle school ideological and political education can ultimately to cultivate qualified successors to the socialist modernization construction in our country.
