In family education, both father and mother are indispensable.Fathers and mothers play different roles in family education, and such roles have different effects on children. In general, mothers are relatively sensible and meticulous.Getting along with their children, they pay more attention to children's emotions, habits, health and safety issues. Therefore, they may be cautious and even limit activities of children. However, fathers are more rational and straightforward.More by their fathers, children tend to be encouraged to try, adventure, sport(in particular).Such encouragement can do great help in the development of the children's physical condition, spirit of exploration, and desire for knowledge.Studies at home and abroad have shown that the more fathers participate in the family education, the better the rational thinking develops, the higher intelligence level increases, the better the performance shows in schools, and the easier success could be achieved in the society.Unfortunately, under the impact of traditional idea as males take care of the outside while women the inside, the status quo of fathers' participation in family education is still not optimistic.Satirically, many mothers complain that they are widowed parenting: fathers are always not at home;and even at home, they don't take care of their children.Numerous studies have shown that the absence of fatherhood is directly related to a range of problems in children. For better growth and development in children,it is urgent to arouse the awareness of fathers' participation in family education and improve its level in family education. On the basis of previous studies,in this paper,6 graders in a primary school in Wenjiang district(Chengdu,Sichuan province)and their parents were chosen as investigation objects.Questionnaires on the current situation of fathers' participation were randomly conducted out of 263 random samples in this group and the data are analyzed via SPSS20.0.In the meantime,8 parents and 3 teachers were randomly extracted from the sampling group as in-depth interviewees. Results of the survey found that:(1)fathers and children have deep connections, but most of fathers are strict;(2)parent-child interaction is common, but the frequency and quality of this interaction need to be improved.Fathers with more stable jobs and higher education participate more than those with less stable and lower education.(3)mothers emotionally supports the establishment of a close father-child relationship, but in practice it runs counter to it;(4)fathers and mothers have a harmonious relationship, but lack communication skills;(5)although relationship between grandparents and parents is profound,across-generational influence is weak;(6)fathers' participation level directly predicts students' academic performance.Based on the above results, suggestions are put forward:(1)fathers should enhance their role, actively participate in family education, set themselves as their children's examples, intentionally spend time with children, equally treat their children, improve communication skills, and learn to appreciate and encourage children;(2)mothers and other family members should reach an agreement to allocate their share of duty to create opportunities for fathers to participate in family education;(3)schools should create positive situations for fathers' parenting and hold father-children activities, lectures and training sessions;(4)education departments should lead to guide and advocate to create a father-education atmosphere;(5)the society should provide convenience for fathers to participate in family education, for example, relieve the tight ask-for-leave system for fathers.
