Objective: In recent years,with more and more foreigners come to China for study,various problems of international students have gradually emerged.International students have high academic and employment pressures,high costs,and language and cultural shocks,which cause psychological problems for medical international students.IF it is not control timely,it will not only fail to study abroad,but also seriously affect the physical and mental health of foreign students,and even vicious events of self-harm,suicide and harm to others.Therefore,this study will explore the prevalence and distribution of depression among foreign students;and focus on the relationship between negative life events and self-esteem and depression.According to the research results,intervention measures to improve the depression tendency of international students are proposed to provide a scientific basis for the management and education of international students in China.Methods: In this study,a cluster sampling method was used to select self-filled questionnaires for undergraduate international students at China Medical University in Shenyang,Liaoning Province.The questionnaire includes general questionnaires for international students,the Adolescent Life Events Scale(ASLEC),the Self-Esteem Scale(SES),and the Center for Epidemiological Survey,Depression Scale(CES-D)to assess the basic conditions of foreign students and negative life,self-esteem and depression.There are 300 effective questionnaires were collected out of 360 questionnaires,It's effective rate is 83.3%.In order to compare the differences of drug compliance among foreign students in different general characteristics,one way ANOVA and t-test were used;In order to evaluate the correlation between the depression tendency and related factors of foreign students,pearson correlation analysis was used;hierarchical regression analysis was used to determine the influencing factors and effects of the depression tendency of foreign students,and preliminary verify the mediating effect of self-esteem between negative life events and depression.Finally,the non-parametric percentile Bootstrap method with bias correction is applied to verify the mediating effect of self-esteem.Results: The average depressive tendency of international students was 22.09 ± 10.77,and there were 203 international students with depressive tendency,accounting for 67.67%.Religious beliefs,nationality,place of birth,monthly family income,and sleep disorders may be factors influencing the depression tendency of international students.After excluding the influence of control factors,interpersonal relationship,learning pressure,punishment,loss,health adaptation and other important influencing factors of depression tendency,explained the depression tendency 10.9%,14.4%,10.2%,6.5%,9.3 % And 9.1% of variation.The higher the level of self-esteem of foreign students,the lower their depression tendency.Self-esteem plays an incomplete mediating role in the relationship between the six dimensions of negative life events(interpersonal relationships,learning stress,punishment,loss,health adaptation,and others)and the tendency to depression.Conclusion: The incidence of depression among international students in this university was 67.67%.Religious beliefs,nationality,monthly family income,and sleep disorders have significant differences in the effects of depression.The influencing factors of depression tendency of international students are:learning pressure,interpersonal relationships,and other,Punishment,loss and health adaptation.The six dimensions of negative life events have a direct positive predictive effect on the depression tendency of foreign students;self-esteem has a direct negative predictive effect on the depression tendency of international students;self-esteem of foreign students in negative life events(interpersonal relationships,Learning stress,punishment,loss,fitness,and other)play an incomplete mediating role in the relationship with depression.According to the results of this study,the learning pressure of international students can be used as an entry point for effective intervention.
