With the rise of positive psychology research, growth mindset and grit as an important factor of mental inclination have been paid close attention by educational researchers.Mathematics,in addition to the general cognitive ability,as an important subject to cultivate individual thinking ability, mental inclination on students' mathematical ability is ineffable and worth studying.Throughout the domestic research on growth mindset and grit, the research level is mainly the theoretical introduction, the research objects are mainly college students and adults. To this end, this study takes primary school grade 5 and grade 6 as the research object, and studies the characteristics of pupils' mathematical problem solving ability from two aspects of growth mindset and grit. The relationship between grit and growth mindset and mathematical problem solving ability is further discussed by using mediating effect analysis. This study randomly selected 350 students from grade 5 and grade 6 of a certain primary school of compulsory education in Xihu district,Hangzhou city.By using questionnaire, test and interview, this article mainly studied two major problems: growth mindset, grit and performance characteristics of mathematical problem solving of grade 5 and grade 6 students; The relationship between growth mindset, grit and achievement in solving mathematical problems. The following conclusions are obtained:1.Grade 5 and grade 6 students have higher achievement in growth mindset, grit and solving math problems, and there are significant grade differences in growth mindset and math achievement.2.There was no significant difference in growth mindset and grit among students with different math problem solving results.3.Growth mindset and grit have positively effect on students' mathematical problem solving: students' growth mindset and learning interest are not only influenced by each other directly, but also both of them could influence students' mathematical problem solving through contributing their efforts. That is,grit plays a major role in the mediating effect between growth mindset and mathematical problem solving. Therefore, based on the empirical evidence provided by this study,in order to better improve students' mathematical problem solving ability and meet the needs of scientifically guided teaching practice, this study proposes several implementation strategies to promote the cultivation of positive mental tendency of primary school students: Stimulate the motivation of academic achievement and cultivate interest in mathematics;Increase frustration education appropriately, pay attention to the shape of perseverance;Carry out independent development education, create growth-oriented thinking classroom.
