Since the reform and opening up,the continuous promotion of industrialization and urbanization has made a large number of rural people flow to the city,subject to the dual structure of urban and rural areas,and many migrant workers have been forced to leave their children in rural area,resulting in the left-behind children group.The research shows that the number of left-behind children is large and the problems are repeated,which has become a vulnerable group which can not be ignored.Under this background,this study mainly starts from the social support angle of promoting the psychological improvement of left-behind children,and probes into the multi-dimensional social support factors and their action mechanism that affect the self-esteem development of left-behind children.This research mainly adopts the combination of quantitative research method and qualitative research method to carry out the research.Quantitative research mainly through the questionnaire survey method,using multi-stage cluster random sampling method to collect the questionnaire data of 476 left-behind children in H City,Jiangsu Province,using multiple linear regression analysis model to analyze,the study found that multi-dimensional social support has a significant impact on left-behind children's self-esteem,but the degree of influence is different,from the social support of important others to its strongest impact.Qualitative research mainly through interview method,using semi-structured interview outline to collect data of 18 left-behind children in H city,using thematic analysis method to carry out data analysis,the study found that family,peers and important others are important sources of social support for left-behind children,and different sources of social support have a certain impact on the self-esteem of left-behind children.This study has certain theoretical significance and practical value.At the theoretical level,the study verifies the applicability of western social support theory to left-behind children in Chinese cultural environment,and the model of social support influencing self-esteem can provide empirical basis for subsequent research.At the practical level,the research found that it can lay a realistic basis for the development of social policy formulation and social work intervention related to the protection of left-behind children.
