The world is going through Information revolution of unprecedented scale,speed and complexity,driven by extraordinary innovations in science,technology,engineering and business models.Therefore,STEM education has been paid attention by governments all over the world.Since the UK is not only a global manufacturing and education power,but also implemented STEM education early,our country needs STEM talents in the industry transition,and primary and secondary schools are beginning to explore the development model of STEM education.Therefore,this study focuses on the implementation of STEM education in UK primary and secondary schools,with a view to providing useful experience for the implementation of STEM education in primary and secondary schools in China.The implementation path of STEM education in primary and secondary schools in the UK is mainly made up of the government,schools and social institutions,among them,the government promotes the development of primary and secondary STEM education by establishing the national STEM strategy group,reforming the National Curriculum Framework in primary and secondary schools,strengthening the construction of STEM teachers,narrowing the gender gap in STEM education and providing funding for STEM education;Schools promote STEM curriculum implement primarily through the integration and updating of STEM curriculum content,while social institutions provide STEM education resources through STEM networks,Nuffield Foundation,Raytheon and others.Based on the research analysis,the UK has achieved a significant improvement in student attitudes towards STEM,a significant reduction in the gender gap in STEM curriculum,and a significant increase in the number of people studying STEM curriculum,but there are also problems such as STEM education programs still need to be balanced,STEM stereotypes still need to be eliminated,and the number of STEM teachers still needs to be increased.Generally speaking,the implementation path of STEM education in UK primary and secondary schools shows the characteristics of top-level design of nationalstrategy,giving full play to the autonomy of primary and secondary schools,and attaching importance to the resource provision of social institutions.Based on the beneficial practices in the implementation path of STEM education in primary and secondary schools in the UK,China needs to promote the top-level design of STEM education,promote the balanced development of STEM education,strengthen the construction of STEM teachers and promote the integration of STEM education resources.
