With the important role of STEM in science-driven innovation and the great wealth created for economic development,STEM education occupies an increasingly important position in the fierce international competition.More and more countries are beginning to attach importance to the development of STEM education,and have increased it as a strategic focus of educational development.However,while STEM education is being vigorously promoted in various countries around the world,various problems in the STEM teacher team have hindered the progress of STEM education.In order to ensure the smooth development of STEM education,the United States,the United Kingdom and Australia and other countries are actively exploring effective programs for STEM teacher education,has accumulated a wealth of experience.Taking the United States,the United Kingdom and Australia as examples,this paper compares the strategy of STEM teacher education and its enlightenment to the construction of STEM teachers in China.STEM teacher education refers to the education of STEM teachers,including all stages from pre-service education,induction training to in-service training,covering the entire process of STEM teacher career.The development process of STEM teacher education can be divided into three stages: budding,preliminary exploration and stable development.The United States,the United Kingdom,and Australia have similarities and differences in the promotion of STEM teacher education,security policies,practice models,and projects.From the reasons for the implementation of STEM teacher education,the United States,Britain,and Australia are roughly the same.One is because of insufficient training and supply of STEM talents,the other is to promote the efficient development of STEM education in the country,and the third is the current shortage of STEM education and the quality of teachers.Judging from the practice mode of STEM teacher education,the United States is characterized by diversity,the United Kingdom is characterized by network alliances,and Australia is characterized by specialization.From the perspective of STEM teacher education projects,clear training objectives,multiple commitments to STEM teacher education institutions,and strict and orderly selection and training processes are the common features of the United States,Britain,and Australia.Implications of the development of STEM teacher education in the United States,Britain and Australia: first,to play a leading role of the government and provide policy guarantees for STEM teacher education;second,to innovate the joint training model of STEM teachers and strengthen the social linkage mechanism for teacher training;and the third is to establish a STEM professional learning community to promote the professional development of teachers.
