In recent years,Chinese language is becoming more and more popular in overseas schools.However,whether it can survive among other languages that are taught in those schools depends largely on the teaching effect and learning experience pupils would have.After working in more than ten primary Schools in Scotland,I found that classroom management has been a challenge yet vital aspect to the effectiveness of Chinese class.As a result,this paper has made an effort on reviewing the classroom management of mandarin teachers in Scotland's primary schools,trying to find the influential aspects of classroom management on Chinese class and to give advices on the improvement of it.The paper has chosen Chinese classes of volunteer teachers in primary schools from the Confucius Institute for Scotland's Schools as its object of study.I firstly investigated more than 40 volunteer mandarin teachers who teach in primary schools,and then I had interviews with teachers to know the real situation of their class and classroom management;Thirdly,I discussed the aspects that mostly influence the classroom management of Chinese classes in Scotland's primary schools,and did a case study through influential aspects angle;At last,I proposed a relatively comprehensive suggestion for the improvement of classroom management.The aspects reviewed in the paper include physical environment,psychological environment,behavior management,and teaching management,as well as class teacher,first lesson.The paper found that whether there is class teacher to support,and whether a teacher has made agreement when they firstly meet would greatly influence the classroom management.In the suggestion,the paper gives advice on all aspects talked in the paper,hoping to give a guideline to teachers who come to Scotland to teach Chinese in primary schools,and to offer as a reference for further study.
