Along with the Woman's Liberation, the country's industrialization, the reform of state-owned enterprise and the institutional reform,Chinese urban women, especially the women who were embedded in Chinese collectivism went through the change of their identity in the era since the founding of new China. In this experimental research,“women in the worker's family” was identified by the women who were born in a worker's family in the period of the planned economy or market economy,as well as,they were themselves collectivist working women. For the women in the worker's family, the first identity is the Working-class,who were liberated by the Socialist revolution. The second identity is wife, daughter and mother in the worker's family. The third is their social gender— “female”.Through the in-depth interviews with 28 women who were born in the 1930 s to 1990 s,the research focuses on the change of identity of women in the worker's family through the Family-State view, and explores the identity of “women in the worker's family” interaction between the class and gender in different inter-generation,and how the state and family impact the process of identity construction. The main body of the article is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the first generation of “women in the worker's family” who were born in 1930 to 1949,under the background of industrialization and women's liberation, women how to work for the nation-building and the state how to make the unstable identity. The second part discusses the second generation of "women in the worker's family" who were born in 1950s-1978.It elaborates how they become workers in planned economy and be out of work in market economy, and how the working class and social gender formed its identity change through the Family-State.The third part discusses the third generation of "women in the worker's family" who were born after 1978.It explores the identity change and rank reality of them in the era of individualization.Their ambiguous identity is worth discussing. The identity of “women in the worker's family” is unstable and developmental.According to the research, firstly, the class and gender conspire to produce the identity, and influence the practical identities of three generations of women.Secondly, the family is the foundation of the women's identity, and also the link of generations. The interaction between state and family influences the practical identities. Finally, the research comes up for two discussions. The identity of “women in the worker's family” is conditioned by the national paternalism and traditional paternalism. The women as subject are not liberated. And the change of identity of women in the worker's family is in accordance with Chinese working class. It stands for the collective aphasia and decline of traditional industries.
