The Republic of China was a crucial period for the modernization of Chinese education.From the end of the Qing Dynasty,there were the vernacular Chinese movement,the Mandarin movement,and the debate about "the level of middle school students' Chinese language".Until the 1930 s,vernacular Chinese finally replaced classical Chinese and became the carrier of composition teaching in junior middle schools.Nowadays vernacular writing has gone through nearly a hundred years of history,and has achieved certain results in teaching practice and teaching theory,but it is still regarded as a "big problem" in Chinese teaching,whether it is teachers or students.From the perspective of education history,according to the chronological order,combined with the social background and political factors at that time,through horizontal comparison and vertical analysis of the requirements and regulations on composition teaching of the curriculum standards of the Republic of China period,Chinese textbooks and educators' writings,the composition of the Kuomintang and liberated areas Different developments in teaching,etc.,the overall grasp of the composition teaching of junior middle schools in the Republic of China period,with a view to enlighten the composition teaching of junior middle school.The thesis is mainly divided into four parts:In the introduction,we first discuss the reasons for selecting the topic of this article,then analyze the research status of this topic from three aspects of monographs,degree thesis and journal articles,and finally introduce the research methods used in this article.The first chapter discusses the concept of composition teaching in junior middle schools.At the beginning of the Republic of China,the concept of composition teaching began to change from "serving for fame" to "for practicality".In the 1920 s,due to the implementation of curriculum standards and the practical exploration of educators,it began to have a modern awareness of "seeking truth and establishing honesty".In the 1930 s,focusing on cultivating the national spirit of the students.Until the end of the 1940 s,for the application of wartime awareness of consciousness,the concept of composition teaching in junior middle schools during the Republic of China has been changing.The second chapter discusses the content of composition teaching in junior middle schools.From the beginning of the Republic of China,the old style of writing was followed,with ancient writing as the mainstay.After the vernacular writing movement and the Mandarin movement in the1920 s,we began to try and explore the teaching of vernacular writing in the teaching practice.By the 1930 s,the content of composition teaching focused on grammar and rhetoric.By the 1940 s,the content of compositionteaching was set according to wartime needs.The third chapter discusses the methods of composition teaching in junior middle schools.At the beginning of the Republic of China,the teaching methods were inherited from the late Qing Dynasty,mainly imitating Bagu.In the 1920 s,it was advocated to organize thoughts and train thinking;in the 1930 s,composition training expanded from in-class to out-of-class;in the 1940 s,group composition teaching was explored.
