| Objective:(1)Verify the reliability and validity of the Abbreviated-Student Engagement Instrument(A-SEI)of China and the United States respectively;(2)Cross-cultural group analysis was conducted on the A-SEI of Chinese and American teenagers to test the invariance of each level.(3)Based on the results of the invariance test, the present situation of affective engagement of Chinese and American teenagers was compared, the reasons for the differences were analyzed, and corresponding educational countermeasures were put forward. Methods :(1)Using the A-SEI,1146 Chinese students aged 11-14(12.44±0.74)and939 American students aged 11-14(12.20±0.80)were measured, and the reliability and validity of the scale were tested.(2)Independent sample t test was used to compare the difference in mean. The morphological invariance, weak invariance and strong invariance between Chinese and American adolescent samples were tested by multi-group confirmatory factor analysis.Based on the strong invariance test of the scale, the latent mean differences of various factors of the A-SEI in Chinese and American adolescent samples were compared and analyzed. Results: The multi-group confirmatory analysis of the A-SEI's three-factor results showed that:(1)The A-SEI had completely weak measurement invariance between Chinese and American adolescent samples;(2)The A-SEI does not have strong equivalence between Chinese and American adolescents, that is,the A-SEI t is not invariance between Chinese and American adolescents. Conclusion: The cross-cultural invariance of the A-SEI between Chinese and American adolescents is not established, and caution should be taken in the interpretation and promotion of the comparative results of the A-SEI among groups in different countries. |
