Online games are a hot topic in recent years.It started from the end of the 20 th century,and after more than a decade of development,the online game industry grew from 330 million users in2011 to 640 million users,a year-on-year growth of 2.5%.Behind the prosperity and development of online games,whether online game players can have a clear understanding of it,how the media report the trend,is the focus of this paper.Firstly,500 online game reports were selected from the WeChat public accounts of People's Daily and China youth daily,from 2014 to 2019.Eight aspects are analyzed,including report keywords,relevance of reports,years,adopted framework,reporting attitude,source of opinion,presentation,report type.A total of 512 questionnaires were distributed.To investigate the effects of online game reports on young people's cognition and behavior.Second,This paper analyzes the reasons for the influence of online game reports on young people from two aspects: the reasonable construction of news framework and the voice of authoritative media.Finally,the author thinks about how the media should report online games in a more objective and balanced way to guide the rational view of online games,and puts forward some suggestions.Through content research,it is found that the two media's reports on online games are mainly negative.From the results of the questionnaire survey,30.66% have read negative reports about online games;54.1 percent could tell the difference between “video games” and “e-sports”;51.17 percent reduced their time playing online games;62.11% can choose healthy online game content.The rational construction of news framework,the focus on the cases of harm,the use of emotional narrative techniques,the focus on negative events,and the authority of the media are all reasons for the influence of the report on the young people.However,there are some shortcomings in the report,and the media should adopt a balanced report to establish an effective communication with online gamers.
